5 Thing Thursday

Holy crap its Thursday already?!?!?

1) Hopefully my story/vent this week didn't scare you off of traveling... How far do you think you'd go with a toddler on a trip?  Let's assume that you'd be going one way on Saturday and returning at the end of the week, to space out the travel.

2) Do you travel on every vacation you get or do you tend to have "staycations"?

3-5 are you.

Today, being so close to the road trip, I'd say about 6 hours, but I have no plans to change the Disney trip in Jan. 2015, that'll be 2 days driving each way about 8 hours, but we'll have 5 days in Florida.

    2) Do you travel on every vacation you get or do you tend to have "staycations"?

Most of my vacations are "staycations".  I get 3 weeks while my wife gets only 2 currently, so it is a guarantee that one is a staycation, maybe we take a day trip, but normally 1 of my other weeks winds up being spent at home also and we may go somewhere on one of the weeks.  Last year we visited my sister in Maryland and saw Philadelphia (very toddler friendly town... great museum, has a nice zoo from what I've heard and Sesame Place is just outside).

    3) Between the trip to NC, and my wife being laid out with the gall bladder surgery and being limited on what she can do... this is not my idea of an ideal vacation at all.  I'm essentially the only functioning parent in the house, so my down time is minimal, and during that down time I have to clean the house and do the things that need done.

    4) I need a vacation from my vacation.

    5) Baseball season mercifully ended for the Cubs and they fired the manager.  I think if Jesus came back to earth and managed the Cubs he would have run out of miracles by the All Star Break.  At least my Colts are playing well... this week should be really interesting.

It's the Cubs man.  Over a century of misery with no end in sight.

I would say there is a potential for an end in the low minors, but this is the Cubs we are talking about... odds are if they were Yankees, Red Sox or anyone else they'd all come up and flourish, but for the Cubs it'll be busts, injuries and flame outs.

    @Coltsdad

It's the same way I feel about the Lions.  You try not to have hope because the moment you do they will crap all over that hope, light it on fire, rub it in your face, and proceed to rattle off another 15 years of losing seasons.  Before you know it your son is stuck in the same bottomless pit of sports misery and the cycle continues.

    1.  I wouldn't be opposed to driving upwards of 6-7 hours at one time.  Of course, I don't have a toddler so I don't really have anything to base my opinion on.  My parents drove to Disney World from Michigan when I was 5 and the trip went fine.

    2.  We travel.  I hate staying home for vacations but that may change now.

    3.  I can't believe my son is already a month old!  It's like life just pressed fast forward during September.

    4.  My parents bought us tickets for game 2 of the ALCS!  I just hope the Tigers are able to make it past the A's in the ALDS so that we can actually use them.

    5.  I would like to give a shout out to Vicks.  You created some magical elixirs when DayQuil and NyQuil were invented.  I think Denis Leary said it best...

    1) Probably 8 hours. We've done 6 hours several times when he was younger. We had both good and bad experiences on those trips. I've been putting off visiting family in PA because I don't want to drive 14hours with a toddler.

    2) Luckily we live 4 hours from the beach, so most of our vacations are a trip to the beach.

    3) I've been trying to cut back my time being on the internet. I just feel like I've become a slave to my phone lately, so I'm trying my best to avoid FB and TB. I really like you guys, so I'm probably just going to check in once or twice a week as opposed to everyday.

    4) I finished my fantasy baseball leagues with three 2nd place finishes and a 3rd. A lot of work for no titles, but I'm pleased to do so well in four leagues.

    5) Braves play the Dodgers tonight in the NLDS. I don't like this match up at all. Dodgers have great pitching. I'm hoping the Braves will prevail and move on to the NLCS.

@futant426 I hope you're able to go to the ALCS! Personally, I'd love a DET/ATL WS.

Probably not to far. We live two and a half hours from where we usually vacation so that's probably where we will go

    2) Do you travel on every vacation you get or do you tend to have "staycations"?
We do both but I think we mostly do Staycations

    3) I find out the gender on Tuesday by gf doesn't want to find out the gender but I do so she said I could find out. (don't know how this is going to work out)

    4) The football team I like finally won a game so they are now 1-3

    5) Weather stopped being nice and now it feels like fall and where I live this kind of weather or colder brings the evil white stuff of doom otherwise known as snow

    1. I am traveling by plane with a 4 month old November (she will be 4 months then) for Thanksgiving and then traveling again by car for Christmas to Monterey, Cali from Portland, OR. Its a 1 hour flight and a 12 hour drive. It will be our first time traveling great distances with her.

    2. I have no clue what a staycation is.

    3. I just joined a bowling league that meets every thursday. Now all I need is a wife beater and a budwiser and I'm the ALABAMA MAN!!! From South Park.

    2) Do you travel on every vacation you get or do you tend to have "staycations"? Most of our vacations are visiting close relatives or going to Catabwa Island.

    3) No active Jury Duty for me, spent half of the day on Monday waiting but at the last minute the person wanted a new counsel.

    4) Do any of you have a permanent time out thing that if you LO does it he goes directly to time out?  We have one set up for when he jumps on the couch.  The bad thing is that MIL allows him to do this.

    5) MW's gall bladder surgery is tomorrow so we get to teach our son how to sleep by himself.

    1) We're not adventurous about traveling at all with our son. The limit is about 2 hours for us.

    2) It's sad, but aside from our honeymoon and Xmas travel, we haven't had a "real" vacation in forever.

    3) I used to be the Silver Medal king in fantasy sports. I've adapted my strategy to swing for the fences more, but sadly that means a lot more 6-8th places too.

    4) I'm at a weird place with my work right now. It could get a lot better or a lot worse (or stay about the same?) in the next two months.

    5) I'm feeling very committed to my October workout plan.

I was bored so I did a google search. I found a decent idea. Have the tech put the gender in an envolope as mentioned earlier, but wait until a little later to find out, maybe until after you finish buying all the stuff. I would think that's when the secret could slip because you're looking at truck blankents when you're supposed to be looking at gender nuetral blankets. Women are smart and will pick up on subtle behavior like that.

Once the stuff is bought you can find out and it won't be as hard a secret to keep. Just an idea.

    Cool I'll try that thanks

Yea something that doesn't give it away. Its gonna be real hard if she's on this site to be all excited about it. The worst thing is that you'll wanna tell everyone and even post it on social media sites. I don't know man I died when I found out the sex of both my daughters. I couldn't hold that shit back for the life of me. Facebook knew the second I knew and my parents new before we left the clinic. So any advice that I give, take with caution cause its coming from a man that can't keep a secret about what he's having to save his life.
I can't keep a secret either so this is gonna be a challenge but she really doesn't want to know and she is on this site too but she came here once to look and hasn't been here since. She read one of my posts and commented on it because I got my sister's age wrong and she corrected me but hasn't been back since.

Yea I didn't get much of that cookie while she was pregnant either. Still was about 2 - 3 times a week but sometimes we didn't at all.
She says she feels fat and no matter what I say it doesn't help her feel pretty like it used to.

Just do romantic things for her. Make dinner even if its mac and cheese, rub her feet and work you way up, kiss her on the neck while holding her hair back, draw a warm bath for her to soak in, MW says that: "Me showing that I was more involved in the pregnancy and being interested in it made her feel closer to me." She also suggested to make it romantic and not "porny." Act like you are into her and its about her not about you getting off.
    I'll try that too.

Is it really safe to make food for a girl who feels fat?
Half of eating well is cooking food at home that is tasty but not loaded with sugar, fat and salt like most take out food is.

    Here's 2 scenarios for you.

    1. Loki: Hey babe, I made you a salad.

Loki wife: You think I'm fat don't you? Trying to stuff veggies down my throat.

    2. Loki: Hey babe, I made you some mac 'n' cheese.

Loki wife: I'm so fat, I can't eat mac 'n' cheese. Don't you even care.

Those were the extremes. The key would be to get it just right. Or maybe I don't get women. Who knows.

Hehe. It sounds like you're not much of a cook. Believe it or not there are foods between salad (which can be awesome, btw, especially if you don't make a lettuce-based salad) and Mac N Cheese. Some nice marinated chicken breasts with seasoned brown rice and a vegetable can make a delicious, healthy dish.

A big part of eating well is preparation and meal planning. For us we tend to eat like shit mainly when we come home from work tired and just want to shove food in our mouths.

Prep and planning is where we generally fail.  We've been working on getting better options in the pantry so we can try to thrown something good together without too much extra effort.

HA. It's just how it played out in my mind. Yeah, I guess you could go the safe well balanced option if you chose to.

I'm not going to say I can't cook. I can follow recipes, just my wife does the cooking. I do the grilling and ice cream making.

We're the same, because I can cook but I am SLOW. That doesn't work so well with hungry child most of the time.

For me, MW usually takes the kid outside so I can cook.  I usually get her heat and eat things that are not the best for us.  Since we both work it is hard to have motivation during the week.
