I almost didn't go to the field trip to the fire station today bc it was about an hour from our house, and apparently everyone in our entire homeschool group RSVPed yes as well. Well not everyone, but some 30 families with 2-4 kids each. I was imagining a total clusterfcuk.
But I'm so glad I went. We were split into two groups. Our group first did the tour of the inside of the station, which was a bunch of empty offices, etc. and then the firefighters discussed some fire safety things with the kids. Then we went outside and switched, and the kids all got to take a turn inside an engine, and then they all got to take a turn shooting water out of one of the hoses to try and knock over a cone. When it was over the kids got goody bags and we posed for some pictures in front of a truck. Then we all went to a local park for a few hours and played in the sunshine
It was such a neat experience, I highly recommend it!
This is a HUGE part of why we homeschool to me, getting out and doing things in the "real world." My heart is so full tonight.
