Babies: 6 - 9 Months

What would you do?

I live in a very small town, and the kids around here love their loud cars.. Every night they tear up and down the roads, rev really loud and spin their tires. LO was up until 11 tonight because of this and I am getting so sick of it! The cops say they can't do anything about it. Now I'm wondering if I should find out who they are and say something to them.. But then again that could just make the problem worse if they know it's bothering me, so I'm not sure what to do.

Re: What would you do?

  • Can you put some white noise in you LO's room. We had a neighbor with a really loud supped up sports car who usually came home around 11pm every night. Once DD#1 knew how to put herself back to sleep (sleep training) it wasn't an issue.

  • If it's a neighborhood issue you could ask to get speed bumps put in. I know of at least 1 or two road in my area that have speed bumps every few hundred feet because of people like this.

  • Thanks! I dug out her old swing which makes some ocean noises and it really seemed to help.

  • We have this same problem- we live on a main road in a smaller town, so it constantly has traffic (including the police and fire station right around the corner). I used to freak out about the loud cars, sirens, etc, but DS just got used to it. That being said, we have a humidifier in his room, and a fan right outside his door for noise, and I think the combo does truly help.

We spent the night at a family member's house on Monday and DS had a hard time sleeping... It was too silent! We had to dig up an old clock to put near his PnP. I worried about his infamous crickets from our white noise machine, but he was just fine with the clock. I didn't even realize he could get that dependant on seemingly unimportant background noise...
