  • SOMEBODY TALK TO ME ABOUT GRANOLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My child woke up at 5:20 AM and just freaked out on me because I couldn't find her favorite apple that she likes to carry around the house with her. And not to eat, she would never eat fruit. It's like her baby doll.

I made some yesterday but it was a Pinterest recipe. It seemed to burn a little bit even though I turned it as much as it says. I don't know why I continue to use recipes from there. They never turn out as good as what I expect.

That looks tasty! Make sure you go to a store that has a good bulk section. That's the cheapest way to buy ingredients for making granola. Do you have a Sprout's near you?
  • @sandyclam

No :( I will have to hope Trader Joe's can come through for me. Buying in bulk usually sends me to Costco. Cause, bulk toilet paper, yo!

  • My recipes are written down and I just don't feel like getting up right now. If you promised me some anal, I could be persuaded.

I think Alton Brown has a decent recipe. Also, I core an apple, slice into thin circles, spread on pb and top with granola.

  • Do you bake the apples with the granola, @Klondikebar?

Lol, @S0ulchicken. I didn't mean bulk like Costco. I meant like bulk bins where you put your stuff in plastic bags and put a number tag on it.
  • @SandyClam  No. We just eat them fresh.

You choose the amount of product that you want, scoop it into a plastic bag, and put a tag on it with the bin number on it. It usually cheaper to buy staples (e.g., oats, rice, flour, beans, sugar) from bulk sections. You can also buy yummy things like chocolate-covered everything, flavored nuts, yogurt-covered pretzels, and trail mix.

That looks like heaven. Alas, I do not have access to something like that. I will immediately begin composing a letter to the powers that be in BFE County. Perhaps they could find room for a Sprout's in one of the hundreds of fucking corn fields around here.

  • This is the recipe I use but I have tweaked it a little bit to work for us: https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/granola-recipe/index.html

Instead of veggie oil I use coconut oil and I also use 1/2 tsp of sea salt instead of 3/4 of regular salt. I also use pretty much whatever we have on hand so if I don't have raisins I use craisins, dried blueberries, or a combo of all of the above. I've also added peanuts if that's what I have. I refuse to go to the store for granola ingredients because it's kind of a way for me to use our leftovers up and make things last longer. The boys eat it on top of vanilla yogurt and sometimes I add some m&ms for them but I like it plain too as a snack on the way to work.

Yep, Altons recipe is the best! I leave out the nuts since DS doesn't like them and I put in all kinds of dried fruit. DS will eat it as is with no milk or yogurt. It's really, really good.

  • I alway use the Ina Garten recipe. I add double the almonds & use just raisins & dried apricots. DS1 loves it with yogurt for breakfast.
