I need to pee but I don't feel like going to the bathroom. Wonder how long I can hold this in. Hmmmmmmm.
One of the main activities of my day.  Drink entire Nalgene, hold in pee to point of severe discomfort, finally drag my lazy ass to the facilities, pee, mentally congratulate myself on pants being noticeably looser in waist area.
I'm not clear on the emotions involved in this. Can I get a reaction gif?

I would also like to see Ehud Barak back in a better position to influence matters. He seems to have some grasp of the lack of sustainability of the path they're currently on.

You are over my head here kiddo.

But my original point was also to public opinion. The American public in general is just so overwhelmingly pro-Israel, and it's odd to me.

I don't get the feeling that the majority of Americans are pro-Israel at all. The neo-cons, perhaps, but not the rest of Americans. IME, they have been very anti-Israel.

Which is strange, given the fact that Israel has been the only country in the Middle East to be consistantly pro-America.

I'm not sure why it is strange to you that Israel would find support in America. Maybe you have explained it somewhere beyond this post that I haven't read. Why wouldn't America support a fellow democracy?

I'm not sure how much democracy has to do with it. Egypt has shown us that there are countries that can democratically elect governments that just don't care for the US very much.

To bring actual numbers into the discussion, here's a gallup poll from March 2013:
    https://www.gallup.com/poll/161387/americans-sympathies-israel-match-time-high.aspx

In the 90s it looks like there was much more ambivalence about Israel in the US. Somewhere around 9/11 a trend was broken. Probably as a direct result of the US facing an attack on its home soil by an extremist Muslim group, American sympathy for the Israeli position rose.

  • @missyishere nope, not quite that weird. I just sit here from like 4-11pm. It's bad. I need to start taking care of children or something so I'm required to occasionally get up.

  • I'm usually very pro-Israel, for reasons I would love to discuss/debate with anyone interested, but even I am anti settlement building in the west bank.

Also, mostly, I think the imperialist British empire of yesteryear ruined the world. Or at least the middle east.

From what I've read, although the British didn't help, the Middle East was fairly chaotic well before the British ever arrived.

I mean, if you assume the Bible is at least fairly accurate in its history of wars (and a good chunk of that has been confirmed by other sources), modern day Israel changed hands a bunch of times well before the Brits ever got there.

    Plus, the Crusades.

  • True, things were pretty fucked in the Middle East, so whoever/whatever came after the Ottomans (autocorrect just tried to make that Ireland, wtf?) was going to have a tough time, but I just think the Brits did a spectacularly poor job. I mean, promising both sides they'd get what they want just set them up for disaster, especially when they're basically polar opposites.
