Pony/pigtails question

What hair bands do you use? Is there a trick for getting the hair in them quickly and neatly without having to use a tranquilizer gun?

  • I use the little rubber bands from the dollar store.

For me, I just sit her on the changing table and give her a toy or another hairbrush to play with and help me while I do her hair quickly.

  • I use the same ones @kellersprag uses!  I believe she told me about them.  I wake Luci up when I am just about ready to walk out the door in the morning, so I do hers in her carseat.  There is much less fighting and it has been way easier!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I have the hardest time keeping up with that damn little comb for her hair!  Ugh I feel like I need to buy like 20 of them to have a few in each vehicle and at least one in every room of our house!

  • I can barely get a diaper on without tranquilizing. This is the only reason I am thankful we don't have enough hair for a pony yet.

As it is I can barley get a bow in their hair. And the second I get one in one of them takes it out. I am not looking forward to the days when they are trying to pull eachothers pigtails out.

  • I tried these but because her hair is fine they slipped out after only minimal head shaking.

  • We use the Goody ouchless elastics.  DD has always been really good about letting me do her hair.  It's one of the only reasons I haven't cut it all off.  I usually give her something to distract her.  It's not perfectly bumpless, but I just do the best I can.  They're these:

  • Thanks, I actually have some of those tiny, clear ones. Maybe I'll give it a try tonight. In a few weeks DH and I will be carpooling with Kate to work/daycare, so my I'll try the car seat trick!

These are what I use for myself! My hair is so fine. :-/

    Poor girl is still bald...
  • We use the small plastic ones too.  Give her a hairbrush a toothbrush to play with while I throw them up.  Getting them out is worse.  If I don't put her hair in a ponytail before work, daycare will put it in 4-5 small ponies put together into big ponies and those things are a bitch to get out when she's tired!!!

  • My secret is: give her something she's not normally allowed to play with. Not scissors or a box cutter or anything. My keys, DH's work ID (on a long chain), a necklace, etc.
