Those with trains/train tables

I read the Christmas/Birthday thread and lot's of good ideas, I'm getting excited! I haven't bought/thought of anything but think he would really like a train set/train table since he loves cars etc. Any suggestions on what brands to get? I saw a couple are getting the Melissa and Doug one's.

I'm not against the name brands, but $7-10 just for one car (Thomas) just seems crazy to me. He does have some die-cast Chuggington and special plastic track for those, but they were gifts.

I got a Kid Kraft train table off of Craigslist for $20. It's blue and has trains and stuff painted on it, similar to the Thomas one. Alex loves it! He has the train set from Ikea.

I would love input on the table as that's a great idea for our playroom.  I got DS a train set (no clue what brand) from my neighbors yardsale for $5.  It was a big bin of pieces, so hopefully DS likes it!

Ours is Melissa & Doug, but it looks exactly like the brio train set my brother had growing up.  Pretty sure pieces are compatible,
