Dr. Internet seems to have conflicting reviews & I don't see my OB for a couple more days. I'm obsessed with taking baths....but I'm not sure if it's ok or not. I'm dying to float it out in the tub tonight! Any thoughts from the peanut gallery?
When I was pregnant with my ds my Dr told me it was okay to take a bath as long as the water was not warm enough to turn my skin pink. I lived in my tub because I was so sick and in so much pain it was the only place I was comfortable
I realize it is now Sunday night, so maybe not possible, but my OB welcomes questions called in between appointments... So don't be afraid to call them and ask anyway.
In the past, I have been told no hot tubs (I'm 7 Weeks today, so no doc appointmet yet... She sees patients first between 8 and 10 Weeks) ... I forget the exact temperature I was told to stay below, but I think regular warm baths are fine. Just don't be boiling yourself or anything. :-p
I'm IVF girl so no submerging in any water for me! I'm on progesterone suppositories so that may be why. I miss it alot. And I did hear no hottubs unless its 98 degrees of lower. What fun is that then?

Also an IVF girl and have been avoiding the tub for awhile now....when I do take a bath I sit in the empty tub while it fills and only fill it to cover my legs so it doesn't touch my stomach. Crazy, I know... LOL

I love taking really hot baths. I'm skipping them during the first tri because for me, if it's not hot, it's not worth it. I will probably start again after that though because I live in Canada and its COLD in the winter!
Baths are usually fine. The issue with hot tubs is at the temperature is stable at 90 to 100+ degrees. But baths cool off. If you notice yourself getting too hot, get out. Otherwise, I say indulge. The issue is with raising your body temperature, so just use common sense (that's not meant to read snarky) and enjoy.

@lindsayb0505 - I agree with baths in the winter! I live in NJ (not as cold as canada!) but sometimes it's the only way to warm up...especially your toes!
I say get a baby bath thermometer. I have this cute little turtle that floats in the tub. From what I remember, I am no expert by any means, you just need to avoid over heating. If you are worried, wait until you talk to your doctor. Having lived for a while without a bathtub, just a shower, the best thing to do is stop yourself from thinking about how nice it will feel. I would cuddle under a blanket that has been warmed up in the dryer.
most of the PP above are correct, the only issue is with the possibility of increasing your core body temp, so generally speaking hot/warm baths are perfectly fine.
My OB gave me the rule of thumb that if the water is hot enough to make you sweat, then it's too hot (i.e. hot tubs or almost-scalding hot baths), anything else is fine.
The only other time it's not safe is if your have ruptured membranes, and that is because it's possible to introduce bacteria into the amniotic fluid via the bath. We don't have to worry about that at this point!
@miles2go its because i am on progesterone suppositories and its helping my body simulate that im pregnant since it naturally didnt happen. i really miss our hot tub!!

From my understanding baths are okay as long as the water isn't too hot - like PP said. I; however, only enjoy a bath when it is so hot it's steamy so I am going to be avoiding baths the next few months. Have fun and enjoy yours!

I'm also on vaginal suppositories and did IVF and was told I could resume baths after transfer. In my first IVF I was told not to then but I guess things changed? lol weird how different doctors say different things.

@lacyj67 I don't really know much about IVF. Why aren't baths allowed for you? Just curious.
