Hello:)
I am due March 2014 and trying to come up with a solid list of names to consider.  So far my list includes Ellie, Elle, Hannah for a girl and Ben, Will, Lincoln, Holden, Cameron and Grant for a boy.  I want something unique but at the same time I want the name to be somewhat normal.  I would love to hear your opinions on these names a well as suggestions for others!!

Re: Help with baby name Ellie/Lincoln??

  • Also considering Emelia (emmie) forgot to add it to the list!
  • Loading the player...
  • I like Emilia and Will.
  • Sawyer, Graham, Preston, Caleb
    Brenna, Evelyn, Audrey, Elise
  • All your girl names are good besides Ellie as a given, full name. I only like Ben from your boy list.
  • I honestly love the name Ellie (as a nickname), but it won't get much love around here because it is extremely popular right now and the nn for many different names.  Elle is only ranked #383 but I am afraid she would get lumped in with all the Ella's which is ranked #12.  Hannah (#22) and Ellie (#84) are not super unique, although lovely names.  So out of your choices I vote Emelia (love Emmie).

    Other girl suggestions:
    Lydia
    Alice
    Clara
    Cora
Eliza (could be Ellie as a nn)
    Juliet

Of your boy names, I love Grant and Lincoln!  I also really like Benjamin and William (Ben and Will as nns).  Cameron and Holden are NMS.  Good luck!
  • I don't care for Ellie as a full name. I like Elle w/ the NN Ellie. Hannah is pretty too but it's pretty common. Emilia is pretty but I think it would be constantly confused with Amelia. I'm pretty partial to Grant as it is DS's name. Will and Ben are nice. Not a fan of Holden and I'm so over Lincoln.

  • I like Holden. It was on my list. What about Hudson? That was my #1 pick BUT dd2 is otw lol

  • I love Hudson but it is my nephews name so It is already taken!! Thanks for your advice everyone, I agree that Ellie is more of a nickname thats my only concern.
  • I like Hannah and Grant.

  • If you want something "different," you might want to reconsider Ellie. That NN is HUGE right now. People have used everything from Eloise and Eleanor to Ellison and Elliot to get the "Ellie NN."

My full name is Allie, so the fact that Ellie is a NN as a full name doesn't bother me at all. I bat-eth not one eyelash to that. It's the fact that Ellie as a NN is soooo popular that leaving her with no other options to go by in school and the workplace might be doing her a disservice.

Frankly, I'd avoid Ellie and Emmie and all names that can be reduced to those NNs altogether.

As far as your boys' names, I really like Lincoln and Holden. Those are the stand-outs for me.

  • I really like Elle and I love Lincoln.
  • I think Emilia and Holden are the best mix of uncommon but normal, although Hannah and Cameron are my personal faves on your list. Although Em- names (and Amelia) are pretty popular now, so Emilia might be frequently confused for one of them.

  • congrats!  I don't think any Ell or Em name for girls right now is really unique sorry..  I love Amelia though!  Hannah is just ok for me   I much prefer just Anna.      For boys I love Will, Ben and Holden.

  • I love your boy names... I love presidential names!
