ds fell off our bed last night after i turned my back for 5 seconds. i am such an idiot. i can't believe i let this happen. he's fine - of course i was hysterical because i thought he broke his neck. the EMT's came to check him out and he was fine (laughing, smiling at them) but i keep reliving the fall and seeing him fall on his head. i didn't sleep all night. ugh - does this parenting thing ever become easier? i feel like i was so neglectful.

My DS has fallen off of our bed at least twice.  They are quick little boogers.  I would not worry about it. I didn't even call the doctor when DS fell. He seemed fine after about 5 minutes. 

If DS is on the couch, I pretty much take all the pillows off and stack them along the bottom so if he does fall then he just lands on a pillow. Unfortunately, though, this has created the problem where he now finds falling off the couch fun so he purposefully tries to do it.

Oh hon, I'm so sorry.  You are NOT a terrible mom.  In all honesty, I challenge you to find a kid who has never fallen off the bed.  E fell out of her swing, and off of our bed in the same 24 hours.  They are made of mostly cartilage at this point for a reason.  That doesn't make it any less hard to see.  Try to forgive yourself.

thanks ladies. i think if i hadn't actually seen the fall but just saw him on the floor it would have been "better." ha - i mean only because i saw exactly how he landed and it freaked the hell out of me. thanks for the support - our nanny said this morning "it's a rite of passage among new parents." lol - was she right.

OH boo it happens! I swear all of our kids have fallen off the bed once! It was the first and last because it freaked us out so bad. Your not a bad mom My sons decides to save all his bumps and bruises for when he is with me. And it has nothing to do with watching him. We were at the zoo and while standing right in front of him he trips on his own feet and face plants.

It's a miracle DD hasn't fallen off the furniture yet, especially since she can climb up on the sofa and living room table by herself. You can't watch them every second!

It happens!  I am glad he was fine.  If I were you, I would be happy that it took until one kid was over 8 months for it to happen!  Our worst was when my DD#1 fell off of a bed...in a mattress store.  That was a great one.  We were looking for a new mattress for DS when she was about 14 months old and she was on one of them crawling around, and off the edge she went.  She started screaming, and we ran out of the store asap!  It makes for a funny story to tell her now
