so in laws came yesterday to watch the kids for a couple of hours. FIL starts telling me about a news story he watched about a family whose dog barked aggressively at the nanny all the time, until the parents put a nanny cam in and saw the nanny yelling and spanking the infant. He looks at me and says "i mean, I'm not saying your nanny does this. but..."

HUH?? WTF? are you kidding? i just stared at him. our nanny is the most soft spoken, amazing, kind patient woman. our babies literally light up when she comes in the mornings, and reach for her and hug her. i love that. i have no reason to question her. what a D-bag.

I hate when people do crap like that.  It's like people don't think.  Ooh, like when you're 9 months pregnant and people feel the need to tell birth horror stories to you.  Why?  Just, why?  Why would he feel the need to put that thought in your head?

TJ I know! you have no idea how many people (when I was pg) would say "oh, i knew someone who got pregnant with twins but unfortunately one of them died." ahhh. are you kidding? a total stranger in marshalls said that to me and my mom one time, and my mom just looked at her like she was a complete idiot.

thanks for letting me vent. it's so damn annoying - DH just doesn't get why I don't like it when his parents come over, and that just solidified it. i wish he would have been here when that comment was made. ugh.

Edit: I just saw your comment about your DH not being home when this happened. My IL's are the same way! They always wait for him to leave the room to say something stupid!!! Pisses me off to no end!

I can never understand why people say things like that. It does nothing but worry you. I am sorry he said that. You obviously know your nanny is wonderful and your kiddos love her, so hopefully you can push those thoughts away.

A lot of people say things without thinking through it before it comes out of their mouth.

Back 6 months ago (when M was 4 or 5 months old), I was talking to my mom on the phone.  She went ahead to tell me a news story about a 6 month-old infant in Hong Kong died in his crib (presumably of SIDS).  I was like, THANKS MOM!  And M had just learned to roll from back to tummy then and was sleeping on his tummy. ugh.

This! Ugh I am sorry you have "those" IL's too, I could type a daily post on just this.

What an awful thing to tell you. We also have a wonderful nanny and Lila lights up when she comes. Hurting a baby is never, ever, ever acceptable but the fact is that most of these unspeakable acts are committed by relatives of the child, not childcare workers.
