Diaper rash

DD has had horrible diaper rash for about a week.  Typically, we put Desitin on it and it clears up in less than a day.  This one seems to keep getting worse.  We switched to cloth diapers about 2 months ago and she has been having less rashes since the transition but about a month ago we switched to a special CD detergent and I am wondering if she may have an allergy/sensitivity to that.  We have been changing her diapers more frequently than usual and I think I am going to re-wash all of her CDs in the old detergent to see if that helps. 

Does anyone have any other tips to clear up really bad diaper rash?  At what point would you call the Pedi?

Put a towel down and let her go diaper-free as much as possible to let everything dry out really well. Hope it clears up soon- poor girl!

I swear by Triple Paste. My daughter has allergy eczema and as a baby this was the only cream to help. I use it on my son too and it takes the redness out by the next diaper change (1-2 hrs). And if you have those spots that almost look like chemical burns it has cleared them up in a day.

Also, try an oatmeal bath. And let their little bum air dry if possible.

If it still doesn't clear up in a day or 2 i'd check w your ped. Could be a yeast infection.

What is the new detergent you're using?  

It's totally possible that it's related to the new detergent.  Either something in the detergent itself causing the issue, or the new detergent not rinsing out completely, or not cleaning the diapers completely, etc.  

Switching detergents can sometimes come with a little trial and error to figure it out.  

Also, I wouldn't consult the doctor unless it was a severe rash that persisted with treatment and/or she was really uncomfortable from it.  

I use coconut oil on diaper irritation.  Cloth safe, good for skin, and it's naturally antibacterial antifungal.  And it smells good

If you have been treating it for more than 2 days and it isn't better and gets worse- it could be a yeast infection.  I would go to the Dr.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I'll try a few more things and if it doesn't get better in the next day or 2 I'll call the Pedi to see what she says.

Try stripping your diapers. Also a bath with baking soda should help. I use coconut oil for diaper rash but I also love the grovia magic stick. I also just use water mixed with baking soda and cloth wipes. DS never had diaper rash but dd was struggling in the beginning and eliminating disposable wipes cleared it right up.
