Really dumb baby question

So, how do you know a food doesn't agree with a baby? There's only been 2 things that have bothered Cade. Like corn or corn bread gives him gross poop and gas. Milk products are hit and miss. Cheese, he does fine with small amounts. I gave him cottage cheese today and he's woken up every couple hours to scream and fart. No idea on the poop yet. He does great with goat milk yogurt though. I'm just confused Cuz he doesn't show signs of being completely allergic to things. He just gets gassy and poops weird. Help?

Re: Really dumb baby question

  • Intolerance than and not an allergy? Was it a hard cheese you have him before and not a soft one like cottage cheese?

Like he does fine with string cheese. He git gassy with normal cow milk yogurt so I tried goat milk yogurt. Seemed better on it.

  • If I'm not mistaken, wasn't it you that discovered your DS had a corn intolerance? Or intolerance to corn syrup or something? My guess would be that maybe he just has an intolerance to those foods, not necessarily a full blown allergy.

My DS, for instance, the last 2 times I've given him something with peas in it, has gotten really fussy and gassy. But hasnt actually shown signs of a full allergy. Plus he's pnly had peas twice, so I haven't really exposed him enough to know if it was the peas or just a random coincidence. KWIM?

  • He is what, 9ish months old (cannot see tickers)?

It might be an intolerance or it may just be too much dairy for now. When we had DS1 tested (just because I have a shitload of allergies and we needed to know if I had passed down any), I was told to take it easy on dairy (as he had eczema), and if I suspect he is reacting to it, to take a break for month and then reintroduce.

At nearly two, he now can have basically every dairy product (though he still doesn't eat cheese). We had a lot of breaks though.

The docs and us were convinced it was corn. He got worse on the corn free formula. I think he just didn't like Enfamil. He's on Gerber now and he does best on it. I think the broken down milk protein is why.

  • Also, we were tokd to test the corn as well. Normal corn gave him weird poop. Corn bread was an accident thanks to Rosie.

Ah. Interesting. Babies are so weird. They definitely know how to keep us on our toes.

  • Well, I'm gong to talk to his doc. However, I do think that he's not tolerating cows milk stuff and no corn. Lol. Just confirming it that I'm not just over reacting.
