Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

headphones for airplane?

We are flying jet blue next month and i know they have TV's onboard. Should I bother getting headphones for LO or do you think just the screen would be enough? LO normally has very limited TV time.

Re: headphones for airplane?

  • I can't imagine ever keeping headphones on a toddler.

  • We got headphones for flights this summer. My kid loves wearing headphones, but has no attention span for television so they didn't get used on the plane. I got him the over the head kind as opposed to ear buds and he loves wearing his "hat." That being said, for the past two days he's been taking my earbuds and asking to put them in his ears so he can go "running." (since he sees me out them on when I'm leaving to go for a run) So maybe earbuds work too?

  • At this age I don't expect Lo to have more than a 5-10 minute attention span for TV. I know you need headphones to listen to music too. The first time we flew LO napped the entire way, and the last time LO stayed wide awake reading books. Since she is older I'm expecting to need more forms of entertainment. I know some of the toddler headphones have noise cancellation to them too so it helps keep out white noise and have volume regulations to prevent hearing loss.
  • I have no idea about Jet Blue, but I would bring headphones.  I have flown with DD a few times and it was much easier with our tablet (loaded with cartoons and toddler apps).  If she got tired of tv she would go to the apps, and vice versa.  Our tablet is the best travel  "toy" we have.  I always bring our headphones because there were many times we wouldn't be able to hear it without holding the speaker up to our ear.  I never put the headphones on DD, but would hold them up to her ears so she could hear.

  • We leave Friday for a trip and ordered these:
Don't know how much DD will like them....we'll find out!
(FWIW, we are getting them for an app that DD likes on the tablet.  I thought she'd be fine without the sounds, but DH thought she'd like it with the sound.  I'm not too optimistic about her tolerating the headphones.  We'll see!)
