Separation anxiety?

Anyone else LO starting to have separation anxiety? Mine has always been passed around in church, in the nursery, my mom watches him once a week... But he's been having anxiety when I leave or when someone else holds him and I'm around. At 4 months he'd see me and cry. It's not all the time but it's becoming more.

He's slept 10-11 hours the last 2 weeks after starting CIO. Last night he woke up every two hours and he just acted like he wanted me (not the boob!) which was nice but I don't want to start a habit.

Anyway, everything says that they don't start separation anxiety until like 8 months. Anyone else?

Re: Separation anxiety?

  • My LO has separation anxiety for sure, I don't care what the book say LOL.  I am a SAHM so we're together all the time.  When my dh comes home from work he wants to hold our lo and usually puts him to bed, but lately our lo has been screaming hysterically when he tries to get him to sleep, so I go into the room and as soon as he hands him to me he stops crying and gets a HUGE smile on his face.  I feel bad for my dh, but he is handling it pretty well, and spends as much time with him as possible when he is home.

We also went to a bridal shower last night and a lot of ladies were holding him and he just kept looking for me and finally just had had enough and started to scream until I picked him back up.

  • It could just be teething related. A lot of babies have a hard time with SA when they are teething because they just want the comfort of their mom.
  • Ah yes, he's got a tooth comong in

  • My LO has definite sa and it showed up around 5 months and he's 6 months old now. I definitely think it's worse if he's tired. He doesn't have it consistently so sometimes grandma can hold him and 5 minutes later he might scream if his uncle tries to take him. I hope he grows out of it sooner than later.
  • My daughter has been like this for almost 2 months now.  She won't even let her daddy hold her if I'm anywhere she can see me.  It's getting frustrating!
  • Our daughter is fine letting someone hold her,but when we are home alone if i leave the room even just to run to the restroom she has a fit till i get back, then shes all smiles again.
  • DD gets it every now and then...she really does fine with other people, but if she's been with someone else for a while and then spots me she'll cry.  It's like she didn't realize she missed me until she saw me. :)
