Hot bath?

I was just caught by my concerned husband as I was taking a hot bath. I was able to sit right in, but I wouldn't put a baby in it. I'm 10 weeks and baths feel so good! Any other hot bath takers? I forgot to ask my doctor at the first appointment...

Re: Hot bath?

  • I was told no hot bath by my dr. They do not want your temp to rise

  • Loading the player...
  • Hot showers make me extremely dizzy and sick, so idk about hot baths
  • I've read in multiple sources and from my OB that hot baths are okay. Hot tubs are not because your whole body is submerged and your body temp rises faster. In a hot bath though, generally your chest and arms are not submerged and your body doesn't get as hot. Just get out of the bath when you start getting too hot and you'll be fine. I took hot baths throughout my pregnancy with DS and have been taking them with this one.

  • The research I have done says not to go above 100 degrees. I know some people set their hot tubs to 99 when they are pregnant, but I haven't asked my doc yet.

  • My doc said hot baths are okay, just no hot tubs or jacuzzi baths because they get too hot.
  • What @KariB509 said. I took hot baths later in the game because I got PUPPS and the aveno body wash helped ease the itch.

  • I have read/heard that as long as you can get it in comfortable and your skin doesn't turn red, the bath should be fine! I love a good warm/hot bath and have been taking them with this in consideration.

  • I take a hot bath every night before bed- helps with my restless legs. I would freak if u couldn't have them

I am one of those people. We set our hot tub at 96. in the cold of winter that wont cut it, but for now i am enjoying it. My doc said it was perfectly fine. I also frequent the therapy pool at my gym which is set at 94 (they also do prenatal classes in the therapy pool).

As long as your internal temp doesn't rise you are fine. If it makes you feel better, you can soak for 10 mins and take a break for 5 to cool off if you're feeling warm.

  • I just got out of a nice warm bath. I don't let the water get as hot as I did pre-pregnancy, but still add hot water every little while to keep it at a nice temperature. I also have some nice natural bath products.

Embarrassingly... I was lying in the bath watching "What to Expect when you're Expecting" on my laptop... (laptop away from the tub) lol

This. Baths are also okay because the water cools over time, and in a hot tub, it doesn't.
  • Thanks for easing my mind, ladies! I wish I could have taken a picture of my frantic husband finding me and running into the kitchen to g
  • Google and get a meat thermometer to check the temp :) sorry for the two part response. Stupid thumb while laying in bed can't seem to hit the right buttons!
  • My OB said baths are fine. The temperature of the water drops during baths whereas the temperature in a hot tub is constant. If it is too hot to sit in comfortably then it needs to cool down some. Your body temperature just isn't supposed to raise above 102 but we aren't cold blooded mammals so its not like our temperatures fluctuate drastically based on our environment anyways.

  • I've read that as long as you're not sweating, it's not too hot.  I'm still paranoid though, and usually keep my legs out of the water (on the edge of the tub), and will bring a glass of cold water with me that I'll drink throughout.  That said, I take a bath almost every day - as I much prefer it to showers (which actually make me so much hotter!).  They're one of the only things that make me feel better sometimes.

This is what my OB told me as well. She said to keep your shoulders and chest out and take breaks.
    Enjoy your bath!

  • Oh man, I so want a hot bath.  Moving at the end of Sept to a new apartment with a bath tub - right now we only have a shower... can't wait!

  • I still take hot baths, just not as hot as I did before BFP. I make sure I don't overheat in the tub, don't start sweating, and my skin doesn't turn red when I get in. Baths are great! I'd be super sad if I had to give up those too, especially with winter coming.

  • I stopped taking baths with my son because I was so scared.. until the end. Now, I let the hot water run on my hands, but I dont let the water get to high before I let the drain down again (lol, i know wierd) and that way I am definitely not overheating and my tummy is not in the hot water (LOL, i NEED to take baths still! I missed that)
