BM to Cows Milk Help

Ladies,
I don't get on here much since my pregnancy so I am sorry to be just dropping a question out of the seemingly blue but I really could use some advice. My DS was BFE for the first 12 months and since his 1st B-day I have been trying to wean down to night feedings only (and then hopefully totally wean) with the introduction of cows milk only problem is he will not drink it.  (I have also tried Goats Milk same issue) Any suggestions on how to trick your LO into drinking cows milk? I am no longer pumping and with DS at daycare I worry about his nutrition since he is not consuming nearly the amount of milk that he use too. I am still nursing in am and pm and whenever he wants on days when we are together.
Thank you so much for the advice.

I BFed my LO for 12.5 months. We honestly just went cold turkey no more nursing at any point. She adjusted well (we did it over the weekend so DH helped a lot) but initially wouldn't drink much milk. We just kept offering it and made sure she got plenty of other dairy products and she now drinks much more milk than she used to. It just took her a little bit to get used to the taste.

Edit: basically I'm saying keep offering and he will probably learn to like it. If not just make sure he's eating enough yogurt and cheese.

  • Thanks ladies, I will keep on going.  I offer it in a sippy we have given up bottles and I do not want to take two steps back....I also offer in a cup with a straw (which I have had better success with). I think it is just an adjustment thing. I am going to try the warming up suggestion maybe it will help. The 50/50 BM/WCM mix did not work for us.
  • Oh, he is great with other solids and luckily loves whole yogurt and CHEESE! So I do try to load him up on those.
  • I am doing the same as you.  I nurse when I am with DD, but she has been going to a dayhome for two months now and doesn't drink much milk there.  They do give her yogurt and she likes that.  She eats well there and drinks water.

It's even harder for me to get her to drink milk.  My doc insisted that kids will like cow's milk if you just give them time to get used to it.  But I have had no luck.  She likes almond milk though.

If you find something she likes and you really want her to have cow's milk...try mixing the two.  Ie. half cow's milk and half almond milk.  Something that sweetens it up but is still healthy.
