Trouble TTC

TTC with Provera and Clomid

Okay heres my story, I have been ttc with my hubby since I was 18 (we've been together since i was 15). I was on birth control about two months (the patch) at the end of 2009 and started trying in Jan 2010. I calculated O with an app on my phone and tried bd the day before and day after, nothing so then went to day of  and day after and nothing went to every other day and still nothing. Towards the middle of the year I started getting a lot of pain during period and during intercourse went to the clinic bc i didnt have insurance and all they did was test me for STDS! I was furious bc I told her me and hubby had only been with each other but she was like how do you know he didnt lie and the only way you would have these symptoms was if you had an std. She gave me ibprophen for pain but it didnt help. Went back again and told her i think i may have PID bc of the pain and that i wasnt getting pregnant and have been trying awhile she sent me for a pelvic ultrasound but never called back about having a followup or referring me somewhere else. Fast forward two years, still trying every month, I go to the obgyn that had prescribed my bc in 2009 and told him i have been ttc with no luck, I was 19 almost 20, he immediately does blood work and concludes that i do not ovulate, but i always had a period although it was very light and 25-27 days apart. He prescribes clomid  50mg days 3-7 go back for blood work and confirms that i O'd. but unfortunately i didnt get a BFP :( I was so heartbroken that we decided not to take it again the next month. Over the next few months I go back several times for UTI's severe cramps, pelvic pain and pain during intercourse. He puts me on antibiotics for infections and does a pelvic ultrasound that showed inflamation so i was given more antibiotics to see if that would solve the problem. The pain came back so he suggested a lap to check for endo.I had the lap in Nov 2012 and was endo was found. I was devastated. He starts me on Lupron Depot 3.75 in Jan 2013 and finished last cycle in June. The end of June I started spotting so I started clomid 50mg. Blood test confirms no O. Now he has given me provera for 10 days (last pill was today) and 100mg  of clomid for days 3-7. I am now 22 and have been ttc for 3 1/2 years. I'm doing everything I need to do I have come off my migraine and RA meds bc they cause risks and have been taking prenatal vitamins since last week of June. I workout regularly and eat more healthy I am even trying to lose some weight (I am not over weight at all but with ra the extra baby weight will cause stress on my joints so I want to lose enough that my heaviest baby weight will be about the same as my heaviest weight which is not overweight if that makes sense). I am so set on this working this time that I don't know how I will react if it doesnt work. I am looking for success stories of those who took clomid. And prayers would be appreciated! I want this so bad we already have 6 baby names picked out nursery ideas and planning a vacation to texas next summer to introduce the baby to my family. Any advice, kind words, prayers, or success stories are greatly appreciated!

Re: TTC with Provera and Clomid

  • I am so sorry about your struggles and the endo diagnosis. I have endo as well so unfortunately I haven't has success yet.

It sounds like your doctor might not be monitoring you properly while you're taking the clomid. Do you have multiple ultrasounds and blood work during your cycle? Clomid can be dangerous and you could be doing some serious damage to yourself. Have you also had an HSG and has your husband had a semen analysis? You should definitely switch to a reproductive endocrinologist immediately. An RE has much more extensive training in helping people get pregnant and they will take much better care of you than an OB.

  • First let me start by saying I'm sorry that you find yourself here. Now for some advice. First, I hope you have insurance now. It was very irresponsible to try to get pregnant without insurance, pregnancy and delivery are very expensive and you don't want to pay those OOP. Next it sounds like your doctor is not giving you the care you deserve. Before starting any treatment you need CD 3 blood work, HSG (contrast dye X-ray to check that your tubes are not blocked), and a SA for your husband. If you are Ovulatory, you should also have 7 DPO blood work.

How was you doc determining you weren't ovulating? Was he doing blood work on CD21? That blood work is useless if you don't ovulate on CD 14, because it should be checked at 7 DPO. You need to be monitored by u/s and blood work while taking Clomid. Possible side effects of Clomid are large cysts that could damage your tubes or ovaries, thinned lining that could make it impossible for implantation to occur, or over stimulation which could result in higher order multiples which is dangerous to mother and babiesl

  • I had an ultrasound last year and everything looked normal. Ive had dye ran through my tubes and they were clear. He did blood work last year that suggested that ovulation did not take place and I go get it redone at 21-22 days into my cycle. He said after three medicated cycles if I was unsuccessful he would refer me to a specialist.

Please be aware that your doctor is not following proper procedures. When you are taking clomid, you should have an ultrasound and blood work on CD3 of every medicated cycle. This is to make sure that you don't have any cysts and that your uterine lining is not to thin. You are also supposed to have monitoring ultrasounds later in your cycle (before expected ovulation) to make sure that you are responding to the drugs well. By not doing this, you risk doing damage to your ovaries, making your lining uterine lining too thin to support a pregnancy, or having high order multiples (like PP mentioned). I know it's frustrating and you just want to feel like you're doing something to make this happen, but you are putting your health and fertility at risk by following this doctor's orders.
