Sippy Cup Conundrum

DD is one in (GULP) 10 days.  I want to get her moving toward drinking more from the sippy cup but it's not going well.  I'm not stringent about getting off bottles right at one, but I'd like to do it by about 14 months...

I have 2 Tommy Tippys and a Nuby that are essentially the same type of cup and she seems to like them, but I would be shocked if she drank more than an ounce at a time out of it.  She'll chug a little and toss it.

Should I try different cups?  Should I try putting more in the cup (like 4-5 ounces instead of the measly amount I'm putting in) to see if she drinks more?

Re: Sippy Cup Conundrum

  • Have you tried a straw? It seems like once O switched to a straw sippy, he drank a lot more from it. We use the Nuby with a straw.

  • I have found putting more liquid in helps rather than measuring it out.

Sage still doesn't really get the concept that she is suppose to drink out of a cup.  She usually picks it up, pounds it on something, and then drops it.  DC says she does well, but I don't see it at home.

  • DD drinks the largest volume out of the sassy grow-up cup or the avent cup. I like the sassy cup because it doesn't leak.

  • My boys sucked at sippys, for a long time. Someone here recommended straws for DD. it's made a world of difference.

I like the oxo straw cups.

  • I couldn't get Beb to entertain anything but a straw cup.  I gave her a training cup the other day and she couldn't figure out what to do because she couldn't find the straw. Ha.

FWIW, we like the ZoLi BOT Sippy Cup

  • OK, I'm going to try 2 things then:

Increasing the volume in the current cups
Buy a couple of straw cups

  • I would just give it more time. Once you're offering less bottles & more sippies/straws, she'll learn to drink more. It sounds like she knows how to use the cups you currently have, so I don't think the cup is the problem.
