What would you charge?

We need someone to come to our home at 6:45 on school days, get our 5 year old foster child ready for school and drop her off at 8:45.  At 6:45 my husband will leave with the two younger children.  Before school care at her school doesn't start early enough for us.   Generally we pay our sitter $10/hour, but that's for 3 kids.   How much would you charge per week?   We're in a medium cost of living area.

  • I would want a babysitter to come at 6:30 (so that if they run late or need to speak with your DH there's not rush/stress), and would probably pay from 6:30-9:00.  So for 2 1/2 hours, that early in the morning, I'd probably pay $40/day, but I live in a VHCOL area.  Depending on where you live, you may be able to find a college student who can help you for, say $150/week.  Another option would be to talk to a SAHP of one of your daughter's classmates and see if she would be willing to have your daughter dropped off early and take her to school.  In a situation like that, I'd probably pay $100/week.

I think the real challenge will be the hours-you need to find someone whose job/life/responsibilites are flexible enough to start later in the morning.
  • I'm paying $10/hr for our nanny for only our one child. That's pretty acceptable in our area.

  • off topic but I am just curious.  when you foster do you have to clear caregivers with the state?  what a blessing you are to foster!

We do.  Everyone who is going to be alone with them has to have a background and CPS check.  One of current sitters is going to do this 3 mornings a week for us.  The other two we'll use the before school at her school and I'll pray for light traffic ;)
