XP; Nap wars, I think she's winning

Hi.  My DD is extremely mobile and over the past few days every time I put her down for a nap she just sits up and cries.  I was going in, laying her back down and telling her good night but it only seems to make her furious.  After an hour I finally gave up.  She was taking two naps a day but I'm starting to wonder if she only needs one?  Also is it right to go in and lay her back down or should I let her try to settle herself?  TIA!
