How long for LO to fall asleep at night?

Last night DS took 2 hours to fall asleep at night! He woke up at 8 a.m. took a nap from 1-3 then we put him down at 7:45. Usually we put him down around 7:30 but he had a bath last night. We also went on a bike ride and he was in the bike trailer before the bath etc. Do you think we're putting him down too late or he was over stimulated? anyone else going through this? He usually takes around an hour to fall asleep so last night was different but I still wonder if he's over tired. He doesn't cry or anything he just rolls around or talks to himself. Thanks ladies and happy monday!

It takes DD anywhere from 5-45 min. I wouldn't worry about unless it becomes an everyday thing.

  • It's been taking an hour for a while now, now I'm concerned. Does teething make a difference? I know he's cutting teeth.

  • I think if he were overtired he would be whiny and crying not talking to himself. Does he have a security item?

  • It's weird, he'll just roll around and talk to himself. I don't think it's because he doesn't get stimulated enough because he goes to the gym daycare and we go to the playground at least once a day. He has a puppy lovey that he holds and he has paci's in the crib.

  • I would think that if he's just talking to himself he's ok.  When DS isn't happy or needs something he lets us know by screaming really loud!  Other times we hear him there babbling, but leave him alone unless he really needs something!  But best guess is that he usually takes 5-30 minutes to fall asleep.

  • It takes DD anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour to fall asleep. Sometimes she cries, sometimes she babbles, and sometimes she goes directly to sleep.

  • What times are you putting your LO's to bed? I'm wondering if I need to push the time back or up. I talked to the nurse and she said to just try different times and see what happens and I moved up his nap today too.

  • E goes to bed at 8:00 pm. We read her books for about 15-20 minutes and then put her in the crib. She is usually asleep before 9:00pm and will sleep until bout 8:00am the next morning.

Sorry you are struggling a bit! I wish I had good advice for you, but night time can be difficult for us too!

  • Alex takes a long time at night to fall asleep, too. We start the bedtime routine at 7.15 pm. Brushing teeth, bath, then books and bed. He is usually in bed around 8.15 pm and it takes him about an hour to finally fall asleep. He also just rolls around, sometimes babbles and plays with his glow seahorse.
He naps for about 1.5 hours around noon and for that he usually falls asleep within 30 minutes or so. Unless he poops. Then it can take up to 2 hours (after changing him).

  • Our schedule is crazy because of SD who has soccer twice a week.  Sometimes her games are at 7:30!   Try to start bedtime between 7:30-8 with him being done no later than 8:30.  Unfortunately the other  nights its closer to 9-9:30!
