I've read a lot of good reviews. Does anyone have one? I'm intrigued but I'm wondering what's so good about it? The price is $125 compared to a baby born at $60
I have both and love both! The Bjorn was great when my son was little, probably 8-18 pounds. I loved that he could face in or out, it was super easy to strap him in, comfortable for both of us, and looks cool. I started to get bad back and shoulder pain, though, the heavier my son got, so I decided to give the Ergo a try. Oh. My. Gosh. What a difference! Initially, I didn't think my son would put up with always facing in (no option to outward face with the Ergo), but thankfully he got used to it pretty quick. Now that he's 11 months, the forward facing position was starting to get uncomfortable for me, so I have been wearing him backpack style, and that position is amazingly comfortable too. There are downsides to the Ergo: it's bulky and doesn't look as cool as the Bjorn, it's pretty impossible to strap it on with a baby actually in your hands, and the forward-facing position only thing, but still, if you plan to babywear beyond 6 or so months, it is worth every penny for the comfort factor alone.
I just ordered the Ergo because it got very good reviews in terms of comfort. With a second baby on the way I'm going to be doing a LOT of baby wearing! I haven't had the chance to try it out yet though, my baby's due in November. But I will say that with my first baby I had the Baby Bjorn and absolutely hated it. I hardly used it because my shoulders were always in pain! I think the extra money for the Ergo is well spent for the increase in comfort. A carrier is useless if you are dreading every minute your baby is in it. I also heard the Beco is really good. Just be careful when purchasing the Ergo and make sure it is from an authorized dealer, there have been many counterfeits produced. I posted on another thread and not sure if this code has been used but if you go to wayfair.com and enter 25c54498212 in the coupon code box it should still work..but only until tonight. 15% off.
I love our Ergo, and so does DD. I have back issues, so it came highly recommended. Ive used it since she was about 2 months old. DD is 16 months and still likes it--in the front or as a backpack. Ergo is supposed to be better for baby hips. You can often find them in sale on Baby Steals. I got mine there for $90.
One thing I forgot to mention: Ergo is not the best carrier for newborns. You'd have to research a bit because I can't recall exactly when we first tried ours out, but it definitely wasn't comfy when my son was just a little tiny guy. Even with the infant insert. Well, we didn't have success with that thing anyways.
I was luck enough to find a performance ergo on sale at target today for $47. It was an online return so deeply discounted so I snatched it up. I was so excited about it today I couldn't stop talking about it, lol!
We bought the Baby Bjorn with back support for $125 with DS1. I've heard so many good things about the Ergo and found an exclusive at the Nordstroms Anniversary for $90 instead of $145. I don't recommend the regular bjorn you won't be able to use it for very long. Your better off spending the money for either the Bjorn with back support or an ergo.
The Bjorn is not good for baby's hips or mom's back. The Ergo is great for baby and mom. I have hiked w/my toddler in it. I now use it with my newborn all the time since I have a toddler. We both love it as well. Not sure why PP doesn't think it works well with NBs...if you wear it and the insert correctly, it's great.
I'd go with the Ergo over the Baby Bjorn. We tried a Baby Bjorn just once and we weren't crazy about it, and neither was DS. The Ergo was a better fit for us.
Here's an image that explains the reason why the Baby Bjorn could be bad for baby's hips. (I say "could be" because I think a big contributing factor is how often you use it, and I don't want to seem like I'm attacking anyone who occasionally uses one.)
