Wow. I'd be pissed that it took them this long to figure out it was worms. I'm glad you seem to have an answer though!!!

  • Yeah, I'm really mad we had to go through all this before this seemingly simple diagnosis. I did read though that apparently it can take a few weeks for the larvae to show up in the stool, so I mean I guess that makes sense.

FX this is the problem and her meds make her all better... SOOOO many creepy Internet hugs to you all for following this thread for 2 weeks and all the helpful advice... much love to y'all <3

It straight up says "RX clay" on it... Idk. H can't remember if he addressed the blood.. I mean the whole treatment plan is addressing it but I guess the guy is thinking it could be any of the diseases he's testing her blood work for.

No allergy panel, although he said if this is all normal he's going to "assume" it's food allergies. See this is why I wish I could've gone. H doesn't think to ask all of this. This is the type of shit that makes us have to go back later. Ugh

For everyone's enjoyment, a picture of our girl, she is still having diarrhea but not vomiting anymore and back to her usual self...

    Stupid mobile making pics sideways!

So glad they found what was making her sick. Worms are easy to treat. Just make sure you clean up after she goes so she does not reinfect herself.

Yeah. No allergy testing. I think you said she was on steroids so they would not test for allergies when on them. Forgot about that.

Keep us posted on how she is doing.

Scary how worms can make a dog so sick.

Happy for you. You can rest easier now!!!!

Hookworms are very common and are one of the main differential in dogs that have bloody stools and have not had a consistent deworming protocol. The prepatent period for hookworms is 21 days, which means it takes 3 weeks for the larva to be mature enough to produce eggs.
Veterinary medicine is like detective work we need to piece a puzzle together and we depend a lot on clinical signs as much a clear history from the pet owner.
As previous posters have mentioned consider pet insurance is well worth it.
