Babies: 3 - 6 Months

4 month appt topics?

So here's what I'm planning to ask the pediatrician about next Friday:
Teething - signs, remedies, etc
Gunky eye - her left eye gets gunky every now and then, I'm thinking just a clogged duct but want to make sure
Flat head - I know, stupid, but I worry she has a flat spot
Solids - we're not going to start until 6 months but want to get a headstart on research and see what pedi thinks are best starter foods

What else should I ask about?? Obviously when they weigh/measure her I'm going to make sure she's in a healthy range but anything else I should mention/ask??

  • Not sure if this will help. I asked my pedi to verify how much formula LO should be drinking in a day. The pedi also asked me about if LO is rolling over and STTN yet, and gave me some pointers specifically about STTN.

  • Curious- what pointers did they have for STTN? I'm so ready for my little guy to STTN but I feel like its never going to happen. My ped just told me "when he's ready", well, obviously, but if there's a little something I could be doing to help, I'd love to know!!

I feel the same way!  At 3 months my baby's sleep went to crap...I thought we hit the dreaded 4 month wakeful early but it's still going strong 4 weeks later.  I EBF so my mom kept telling me he was hungry and I got anxiety thinking he wasn't getting enough and I ended up starting him on organic baby oatmeal.  It did nothing.  He was awake 3 hours later and I KNEW he wasn't hungry since he had cereal with 2oz of breast milk and then he nursed before bed.  When he was 7 weeks old he was going 6, 7 hour stretches before a feed.  Every family has to do what works for them and I figured out that W doesn't know how to put himself back to sleep on his own and I had created a pacifier monster who woke up every 45 minutes to an hour when it fell out of his mouth.  What was once a life and sanity saver for me was becoming hell.  I decided to quit the pacifier cold turkey.  So far it's been 48 hours and there has been less crying than I anticipated, which is nice although it's still hard.  I have to say, we've had our best night's sleep these past 2 nights.  I was shocked when after I nursed him, I was able to lay him in his crib DROWSY BUT AWAKE and he put himself to sleep with no fussing!  He still fusses and cries a bit for naps and when I first put him down at night but after MOTN feedings, he doesn't fuss at all and has been doing 3 hour stretches in between his initial long stretch and started sleeping until 6AM rather than waking up 4:30-5AM like he has been for the past 5 weeks.  So, I don't know if you're finding yourself replacing a pacifier all the time but this is what seems to be fixing our problem with 5-6 night wakings.  I hope it continues to get better (until he starts teething!) because I'm TIRED.
