PTL - When do you call or go to L&D?

I went into PTL at 24 wks - I didn't know it but I was having contractions 3min apart and was only informed of it as I was at a apt with my ob/gyn when they were happening. I was immediately sent to L&D, monitored, given 2 shots and sent home with a px for Procardia and bed rest. 5 weeks later i've taken the Procardia a couple of times when I have more than 4 contractions in an hour. Typically after the Procardia my contractions slow down to 1 every hour.... not tonight.

I had 4 contractions between 7pm - 7:40pm so I took a Procardia... since then i've had 3 contractions in an hour. I'm a little worried that maybe i'm having more that I am not feeling.

For all women on bed rest b/c of PTL, when do you call your ob/gyn for advice and when do you go to L&D after you've taken procardia??

  • Go in if you are unsure. My dr wants to see less than 6 contraction an hour.

  • I think if while on procardia you are still experiencing a steady amount you should call or go to LandD
  • I'm 35 weeks now, so my OB is a little less strict with me.  Now they can get close together as long as they don't hurt because my cervix hasn't changed in a few weeks.

However, when all this junk started when my contractions were coming every 7-10 minutes, I would call.  I can't just go to L&D, we have to have an OB tell us to go in and tell L&D that we're coming in.

My feelings? When you're concerned, call your doctor.  You know your body and what you are feeling better than anyone else.
