Rash and teething?

We have company coming over this afternoon with an 8 month old. They just told us their lo has a rash on his arms and hands that is related to his molars coming in. I've heard of a diaper rash with teething, but not a body rash. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks?

Hmmmm I'd be more suspicious of him either having reacted to something he ate or came in contact with or him having a virus or eczema rather than it being from teething. I don't have any personal experience with teething yet though.

Agreed. My boys had teething rashes on their cheeks and under their chins from teething, but not all over their bodies. I always assumed the reason for teething rashes was excess drool (which makes sense with the placement of my boys' rashes), but I'm definitely no expert.

I agree with pp. Did he see a doctor or did the parents just assume it was due to teething. It could also be a virus or even worse the start of HFM. DS had HFM when he was one and I had no clue that's what he had. He had gotten a rash from a fever before so I just assumed that was what it was. When the pedi saw it she diagnosed HFM.

I agree with ruthie that I thought it was due to drool. But if LO is chewing on hands and arms, that could be possible I suppose. GL.

Isn't it too early for 8 month-olds to have molars???  

M has a bumpy rash on his arms and legs for the past 2 weeks - it's related to a viral illness.  

He also has a drool rash on his chin which comes and goes.

Ooh, good point on 8m and molars. E is almost a year and no molars. I'd be skeptical.

Ok, so their baby is a week shy of a year (thanks dh, lol). It was a full body rash. Baby seems to be acting fine and feeling well. Either way, I'm going to go Lysol everything he touched!

And they are bringing him to the doctor on Monday if it hasn't started to clear.
