Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Travel sleeping. Guard rails or cot?

We have some small vacations coming up and we also need to solve lack of naps when family watches her at their house.
DD doesn't sleep well with out a designated, quiet, sleeping spot. She is in a toddler bed at home and does well and uses a cot at daycare and they says she is good with that as well.

We are looking for something that is easy to travel with for vacations and if it can work for babysitters great! If not then no biggy, her grandma is throwing around the idea of getting her own toddler bed (talk about spoiled right?)

So the ideas:

-Using a pool noodle under the sheet of an extra bed, but I don't know if the sheet will fit on the bed still. I also worry she may just roll right over it since she can be a fairly active sleeper at night.

-Getting those crib rails. This may work for family as well because one grandma has an extra bed and the other grandma still has elemntary school children so she could possibly sleep in their beds. ( their rooms are usually a mess though so I am not sure if that will distract DD)

-Buying a blow up toddler bed or a collapsible toddler sized cot.

What would you do?

TIA And sorry my posts are always so long! I like to talk lol

  • i bought the shrunks travel toddler bed. I flew with it when LO was round 18 months and was sleeping on a cot at school. She's still in her crib at home since i get ready before I get her out of her crib and it is just easier for me. It was lightweight, took a regular crib sheet and was awesome.

This exactly! DS wasn't too thrilled at first because he still loves the crib but once we got to the hotel and there was no crib in sight he was fine. He also sleeps wonderfully on a mat at daycare.

  • We've never bothered with rails on the beds and the girls have fallen out of bed maybe once. They just sleep in whatever bed is available wherever we're staying. Sometimes that's sharing with us, sometimes with each other. If we're staying someplace with no bed available for them they sleep in sleeping bags on the floor. They think it's fun, like camping ;)

This is what we plan to do, it seems so much easier then to hall a pack n play around or anything... So I may be counterproductive to do anything. Hm... Maybe I will just get those big pool noodles and hope she doesnt fall out.

    Thank you everyone!
