GD test this afternoon!

My test is in a couple hours! I hope I pass!!!

My prenatal appt was already scheduled for this afternoon so they decided to squeeze in my GD test otherwise I would've done it in the morning.

Per the nurse, she said to try to avoid carbs and sugars at least 24 hours before the test. Have any of you done that and passed or failed? Or does it really matter? I REALLY want some Coldstone cheesecake ice cream with brownies right now!!!!

Re: GD test this afternoon!

  • Haven't done it yet, but yes, it matters. If you fail the test, your OB will put you on a restricted diet and do extra monitoring. And if you might have to redo the test (yuck). Lol, so I wouldn't give in to the ice cream craving right now.

  • Yeah, my doc rec'd to fast for 4-6 hours before the test and I have heard that carbs or sugar before or after will make you feel sick. I am going in first thing in the morning when I do mine.

Good luck! But, yeah, I'd avoid the ice cream for now.

  • That ice cream just sounds so amazing. I really need to find out where the nearest cold stone is! I haven't had any since I moved to AR.

  • It doesn't matter much what you eat, if you body isn't breaking down sugars properly, it won't break down sugars properly.  You'll be drinking something very sugary before they draw your blood.  My doc told me not to eat a bunch of candy or anything but otherwise eat what you normally do.  I had GD with my son.  Because of that, I was tested at 8 weeks.  I failed the one hour but passed the 3 hour.  I'd hold off on the ice cream until after the test.

  • Haha yes for sure I'll be holding off on the ice cream (any carbs and sugars) till after.

I guess what I meant to say/askwas does it matter if I fast or not. My dr's nurse said not to - just avoid carbs and sugars as much as possible 24 hrs before. I've been eating veggies, lean protein, drank only water and a sip of coconut water since Monday evening...

Thanks! That's what I was wondering about...I figure they want to get the best picture of how your body works on an average day. I eat pretty healthy for the most part (minus the ice cream cravings!) so I'm hoping I pass but you never know with pregnancy!

  • My first glucose test came back a 70. It was forever ago and I don't remember what I had before it.  The second time around I wanted to "test" it so I had a huge glass of juice and some frosted mini-wheats? I think. It came back 81.  My doctor told me to be careful of what I eat before hand but I really want to make sure I can eat as usual.  I do eat ice cream just about daily and can't get enough juice... I kinda want to do the same on the day of the test.
  • I had to take the test once already early this pregnancy.  They told me to just not eat carbs before the test (I took it in the morning).  I passed with flying colors but then again I really didn't have any doubt I would.  My last pregnancy they didn't give me any restrictions and I believe I ate carbs that day (I craved them all pregnancy) and passed with flying colors.
