Really confused..TMI

So I've left a message with my doctor about this but I'd like to hear if anyone has had this happen to them..

I have PCOS and I get my period on my own maybe twice a year. My doc started me on Metformin and I started with 500 mg and could only get up to 1000 mg a day because I was feeling so horrible. I decided maybe I should rethink things due to how badly I was feeling so I stopped the Metformin. The following day after missing a Metformin I got a terrible cold out of the blue which I find hard to believe isn't somehow related to stopping the Metformin. ( My H didn't get sick) So after over a week with this cold and no signs of it stopping I started the Metformin again and to no surprise my cold symptoms have faded. Now, I'm working my way back up again and have been on 500 mg for a week now. Yesterday, I was sitting on the computer and started to feel a trickle down my leg so I ran up the bathroom (maybe TMI sry!) and bright red blood began gushing along with some type of thick tissue. At first I didn't think anything of it, but it wasn't anything like a clot. It was bigger. Since that two minutes of gushing red blood there has been absolutely nothing! Not a speck of blood!  Could this have been a miscarriage? I'm really lost...I tried looking this up but have found nothing that is why I'm asking you ladies. TIA

  • The Metformin takes some getting used to but once you are used to it (a month or so) it really regulates your periods and makes them regular.  You may have had breakthrough bleeding because you stopped suddenly.  Are you charting your cycle or on BCP? It's hard to say if you got pregnant or not without knowing if you ovulated.  With my PCOS I didn't ovulate at all, even with Metformin.  GL.

  • I'm not on BCP but I'm not charting either because I figured I'd wait until I had an actual menstrual cycle to then begin..

Ditto.  Metformin didn't really help me all that much when it came to regulating my period.  I did get one period on it and it was really, really heavy.  I think it is best that you called your doc, but I'm sure you are fine!
