first tri screening, anyone?

Just curious as to whether this is common or rare?  If you don't mind sharing, did you or will you have first trimester screening done?

Re: first tri screening, anyone?

  • We only did the NT scan, and that really was just an excuse to get another u/s :)  the results would not have affected our decision to have our baby, so we didn't do any other tests.

  • We did the screening, but not the NT scan.  My insurance would not pay for an NT scan unless I was advanced maternal age.  We only would of done it to see the baby again.
  • We only did the quad screen, which was during early 2nd tri.  We did it just to be prepared - we wouldn't have done amnio or CVS.
  • I went in to have the quad screen but I was too far along and my baby was too big so I just got an ultrasound which was neat.

  • We had the NT Scan, and like the pp said, it was just a good excuse for another ultrasound.  It was actually my favorite u/s - Connor was jumping and moving around so much, by the big u/s at 20 weeks, he was too big to get those funny views.
  • I had the screening test done with my daughter and thought I would never do it again because it wouldn't make a difference in my decision.  That was until I worked with a lady whose granddaughter had spina bifida.  I had asked her if her daughter had had the screening test and found out before hand.  She told me that her daughter did in fact have the screening test and knew ahead of time.  She also told me that this was so benificial.  Because the couple knew the child would have Spina Bifida they were able to delivery at CHOPS instead of Womans and Babies (In Lancaster).  They also knew to deliver the baby cesarean instead of vaginal which was crucial to the child.  The baby was immediatly taken into surgery after the birth instead of having to be air lifted to a hospital that specialized in these types of birth.  Because of them being prepaired the baby has a small scar on her back and is developing completely normal. Just something to think about.

I am preparing to again get the screening done with this pregnancy, better safe than sorry.

  • Thanks, all.  My appointment was already scheduled when I asked, but I guess I just needed some assurance.
