I need to know what you ladies cook (or that your awesome DH's cook for you if you are not so good in the kitchen, like ME!) Every day at around 4pm my DH calls me and asks, "so, what's for dinner?" and EVERY time I say..."I dunno, what u makin us?!?" I really have no dinner thought up, and 9 times out of 10 he ends up coming home and making us dinner. I love doing other things around the house except for cooking.
Can you guys just give me a list of things you typically make in a week? And if you are a take-out person...I want to hear from you guys as well. I just want to get a sense of what others are doing for dinner options out there these days. TIA!!!!
Re: Tell me about your weekly dinner menu
We do take out 2-3 times per week.
We cook lots of frozen chicken things, ground beef (sloppy joes, tacos, etc.), and pasta.
I often check Menu Plan Monday at orgjunkie.com to come up with my weekly plans (I actually do a monthly menu), but I just basically start out with a few ideas and build from there.
I think in categories - Italian, Mexican, Asian, etc...and pick one from each category each week. Other people think in terms of protein - beef one night, chicken another, fish, etc...
Then I have my list of "easy" dinners - spaghetti, tacos, burgers, salads, and I always put those on in nights when we have other things to do, like scout meetings, etc.
Breakfast
Shake n Bake chix with rice or au gratin potatoes and green beans
Grilled Cheese night with tata tots
Fend for yourself night
take out maybe every other week or so and usually just pizza (mushroom!)
I plan our menus on Sundays before grocery shopping. I feel so much better when I know what we're having for dinner for the whole week. This week's menu was:
Kilbasa, perrogies, and cabbage with salad
baked cod with baked potato and broccliflower (sp)
marinated london broil with baked potato, esparages, salad
tuna casserole with salad
hamburger helper with salad
order out for pizza!
Things we do often:
grilled skirt steak and vegtables (usually zucchini, onions, peppers on the grill)
Pork with spinach and rice
Pasta with veggies and maybe chicken
Chicken and veggie stir fry or curry
Grilled fish and salad
Monday- Wendy's
Tuesday- McDonald's
Wednesday- Mexican- Taco Bell
Thursday Thursday- Italian- Pizza Hut
Friday- Asian- China Express (Safeway)
Saturday- Teriyaki
j/k but I too, am not a cook so we do eat out more than we should
Monday - Arancini (rice balls with peas and ground beef) and salad
Tuesday - Chicken cutlet, noodles and veggies
Wednesday - tacos or enchiladas (whatever I feel like doing when I get home from work.
Thursday - thin sliced pork chops in a panko/ginger breading, rice or couscous, salad and/or veggie
Friday - pasta (maybe ravioli), rolls and salad
Sat. - we are going straight to a holiday party when we get our of work
Sun - we'll see?
for some ideas check out my blog

you might have to dig deeper than the last two months or so since ive been neglecting my hobby of posting dinners!
Monday - Tortellini w/ pesto
Tuesday - Paninis & salad
Wednesday - Pot roast, potatoes & carrots
Thursday - Grilled Chicken salads
Friday - Hubby has class so I will probably get take-out
Saturday - Frozen pizza
Sunday - Hamburgers, au gratin potatoes & green beans
All this food talk has my belly growling and I have 2hrs till lunch!
I make up my menu with 6-7 meals on it on Saturday and then go shopping for all the stuff. So every night I figure out what we will have off the menu for the next night so I can defrost meat if needed or prep veggies or whatever.
Typical meals:
Shrimp pasta with broccoli and peppers
Jamaican Jerk Pork Stir Fry
Chicken or Shrimp Fried Rice
Chicken or Turkey pot pie
Burgers and sweet potato fries
Homemade chicken fingers coated with chex cereal with homemade fries
Balsamic Ravioli with a veggie and fruit
Hot Dog Creole
Homemade pizza
homemade calzones
burritos
tacos
enchiladas
soba noodle soup with shitake mushrooms
grilled cheese with homemade tomato basil soup
mushroom barley soup
pumpkin black bean soup
next week i'm going to throw some sausage or bratwurst into a crock pot with some potatoes, onions, carrots, apples, sauerkraut and apple juice and some spices and see what happens with that
I either make up my recipes up or I use the Six O'Clock Scramble cookbook (highly recommend this cookbook!). I also stalk a bunch of food blogs and when I see recipes that sound good I e-mail them to me, and they get added to the next week's menu.
We go out to eat maybe once a week.
Things we make on a regular basis:
grilled chicken, veggies, beans, bread
some sort of steak/ribs with salad and baked potatoes
eggplant parmisian
lasagna
enchaladas
tacos
meatloaf
oven baked fried chicken (breaded in ritz or saltine crackers and it's soooooooo yummy)
burgers
kabobs with chicken, steak, bell peppers, onion, mushrooms
we bbq a lot because it's easy and tastey and i LOVE my crock pot (roasts, stews, chilli)
