2nd Trimester

Tell me about your weekly dinner menu

I need to know what you ladies cook (or that your awesome DH's cook for you if you are not so good in the kitchen, like ME!)  Every day at around 4pm my DH calls me and asks, "so, what's for dinner?" and EVERY time I say..."I dunno, what u makin us?!?"  I really have no dinner thought up, and 9 times out of 10 he ends up coming home and making us dinner.  I love doing other things around the house except for cooking.

Can you guys just give me a list of things you typically make in a week?  And if you are a take-out person...I want to hear from you guys as well.  I just want to get a sense of what others are doing for dinner options out there these days.  TIA!!!!

Re: Tell me about your weekly dinner menu

  • Spagetti is always an easy option. Chicken parm subs. Enchiladas or fajitas with rice. Boboli pizza and salads... check our foodnetwork.com for some super easy recipes to make during the week.
  • Loading the player...
  • We do take out 2-3 times per week.

We cook lots of frozen chicken things, ground beef (sloppy joes, tacos, etc.), and pasta.

  • spaghetti, tilapia and mashed potatoes, meatloaf, some sort of "Helper" meal...usually tuna....and lately, we've had a lot of soup and grilled cheese dinners....Ooh, and breafast for dinner is really easy and good too=)
  • I often check Menu Plan Monday at orgjunkie.com to come up with my weekly plans (I actually do a monthly menu), but I just basically start out with a few ideas and build from there.

I think in categories - Italian, Mexican, Asian, etc...and pick one from each category each week.  Other people think in terms of protein - beef one night, chicken another, fish, etc...

Then I have my list of "easy" dinners - spaghetti, tacos, burgers, salads, and I always put those on in nights when we have other things to do, like scout meetings, etc.

take out maybe every other week or so and usually just pizza (mushroom!)

  • I plan our menus on Sundays before grocery shopping. I feel so much better when I know what we're having for dinner for the whole week. This week's menu was:

Kilbasa, perrogies, and cabbage with salad

baked cod with baked potato and broccliflower (sp)

marinated london broil with baked potato, esparages, salad

    tuna casserole with salad

    hamburger helper with salad

    order out for pizza!

  • Now that it's cold we've been making a ton of soups (I really shouldn't say "we", my DH does most of the cooking these days).   Throw together some beans, tomatoes, left over veggies from your fridge... Super easy.  And if we make a big pot of soup it lasts for days, so we only cook a few times a week.
  • Things we do often:

grilled skirt steak and vegtables (usually zucchini, onions, peppers on the grill)

    Pork with spinach and rice

Pasta with veggies and maybe chicken

Chicken and veggie stir fry or curry

    Grilled fish and salad

  • I make all of these things the other ladies mentioned, but also love to make chili and stew.  I make a huge pot of chili and then later in the week make chili burgers or chili dogs.   I love one pot meals. allows me more time to be on thebump, lol
  • I make up my menu with 6-7 meals on it on Saturday and then go shopping for all the stuff.  So every night I figure out what we will have off the menu for the next night so I can defrost meat if needed or prep veggies or whatever.

    Typical meals:

Shrimp pasta with broccoli and peppers

    Jamaican Jerk Pork Stir Fry

    Chicken or Shrimp Fried Rice

    Chicken or Turkey pot pie

    Burgers and sweet potato fries

Homemade chicken fingers coated with chex cereal with homemade fries

Balsamic Ravioli with a veggie and fruit

    Hot Dog Creole

    Homemade pizza

    homemade calzones

    burritos

    tacos

    enchiladas

soba noodle soup with shitake mushrooms

grilled cheese with homemade tomato basil soup

    mushroom barley soup

    pumpkin black bean soup

next week i'm going to throw some sausage or bratwurst into a crock pot with some potatoes, onions, carrots, apples, sauerkraut and apple juice and some spices and see what happens with that

I either make up my recipes up or I use the Six O'Clock Scramble cookbook (highly recommend this cookbook!).  I also stalk a bunch of food blogs and when I see recipes that sound good I e-mail them to me, and they get added to the next week's menu.
