What age for a bouncy house?

Would you let a 2 year old go in a bouncy house?  Is it safe at that age?  There is a local indoor playground that I take DD to and it has a bouncy house in it.  I'm reluctant about letting her go in because I'm worried that she might get out of control and get like whip lash or something.  Am I overreacting?  I see young kids in there all the time but I never know if its safe or not.

Re: What age for a bouncy house?

  • I would let my 2 year old play in one provided there weren't a bunch of rowdy, out-of-control older kids in there at the same time.  It would be other kids I'd worry about more than DD herself getting out of control!

  • it's ok if they are in the bouncy house with kids their size. ?Obviously you wouldn't let your 2 year old go in with a 7 or 8 year old..?

Layla has her own bouncy house.. she got it for her 1st birthday and she loves it. ?But when her older cousins are in there with her, they are always careful (with plenty of reminders from me and their parents)

  • I don't know about the safety factor, but my 2 year old won't really get in them because the bigger kids are crazy wild and he can't even stand up, let alone jump around.  I know the bounce house places in our area make you sign a waiver to participate...and DH has treated umpteen kids that have come to him with broken bones from bouncy house accidents!

  • just be careful about the size of the other kids - if they are much bigger it can propel your kid really high/fast - and they can crack heads, etc.

in general, those things aren't very safe - but kids do love them!

  • absolutely I would and have let her go into a bounce house.  We rented one for her 2nd bday and also go to the YMCA and a local ice rink to their bounce houses often.  She will be fine!
  • Mia's been playing in one at school since about 1.5 but I'm sure it's very regulated (only a few kids at a time and all of the same age group). I'd be less carefree if it was a mixed ages thing.
