Does this sound like teething?

Late yesterday afternoon DS woke up from a nap burning up with fever.  He's never had a temp higher than 99.5 before.  It was 102.6.  His cheeks were splotchy and bright red, but he didn't seem to have any other symptoms of being sick.  He was laughing, smiling, and in a good mood.  It did take a while to get him to sleep (about 1.5 hours longer than usual).  He also woke up at 3am even though he typically sttn.  At 3 he still had the fever and I gave him more Tylenol.  When he woke up at 6:30 this morning, he no longer had fever, but his cheeks were still flushed.  I don't see or feel anything on his gums.  I'm just trying to figure out what is causing this.  TIA

  • I don't think that teething causes such a high fever.  You might want to give your pedi a call.

Fevers are the worst at night, and can seem to go away in the morning because body temperatures drop in the morning.

  • I should have mentioned this in the OP, but I called the pedi last night.  She said to give him tylenol and a cool bath.  We did that and it brought it down about a degree.  According to her, there is no need to bring him in unless the fever continues for more than 2 days or goes up to 105 and won't come down.  I was just curious about the teething b/c I've heard from several people that DC's cheeks will become flushed.
