travel time to hospital?? I live about 1 hour and 15 mins away driving speed limits.. About 60 miles. Gets me nervous and worried. If they send me home, what a hassle right? Or if I'm about to give birth, will I make it?
Depending on time of day and traffic anywhere between 30 to 60 mins away. I used to live closer to the hospital (theoretically now I have a closer one to where I live) but since I was so happy with how my birth experience with DD1 went, I'm set on sticking to the same hospital this time around too.
Well I was 5 minutes but they want me to move to the big hospital and it's 2 hours away I have made that drive in labor, twice with #2 & #3 and it sucked. Was so hoping to deliver here. It was much more convenient with my last 2 having them here.
I'm 45min to the hospital driving speed limit at night, but it's right downtown, so traffic can be a nightmare. My doula is only just down the road though, so I'm counting on her experience to help judge when to go in. With #1 I was only 5 min from the hospital.
About 20 minutes. Buuut... the hospital has no parking lot, it's a 1800s building downtown and I'm paranoid about being left at the admission gate for delivery when it all inevitably goes down at 4 in the morning while DH is left to his own parking in the street devices...
We're an hour from the hospital. Really worried about not making it or going and getting sent home. Also just the thought of being in labor for an HOUR in the car...OMG don't even want to think about that!!
I'm an hour away from my birth center! I'm also worried about driving all the way there and then having them not admit me yet! They told me that there's a hotel down the street that we could stay in until it's time to be admitted, but that's such a hassle! I also don't want to have my baby driving down I16!
I'm only 10 mins away and I still barely made it! He was born 29 mins after we got there. Second time mom though and labor progressed MUCH faster this time. From start to finish labor was 4 hours and the first 2-2.5 hours were pretty sporadic contractions. After a 14 hour labor with my first I was convinced I had more time. I'd say just head to the hospital as soon as you think you're in labor. Typically you have plenty of time, even if your hospital is farther away.
I live about 45 minutes away. So, they gave me different guidelines to when I should come in. If my water breaks I was told to go in immediately or if my contractions are even 8 minutes apart. I'm a FTM so I'm not too worried about it happening fast.
2 hours from my delivering hospital, though there's one 10 min away for emergencies. I chose to go to a teaching hospital in a bigger city because they champion natural birth, have a free doula program, and have a quarter of the c-section rate as my local hospital. I've also heard of many terrible experiences from the local hospital and doctors, so it's worth the risk for me to go farther away. I'm not worried at all, and have had several friends give birth there with no problems. Oh, and did I mention my L&D ward has a Starbucks?? #worthit
From my work - 5-7 minutes From home - 15-20 minutes From home, having to wait on DH to get home from work to take me - 1 hour. I hope if it doesn't happen this weekend, that it happens after he gets home from work.
