Are there special preemie toys?

I am asking because I am getting worried that Brendan is behind.? He should be 3 months now and he isn't grabbing toys or anything like that .? He does grab my shirt and hair but won't hold any of his toys. ? ?

Thanks?

I am trying to think back to when Evan was 3 months and I can't remember anything special.  If it helps I don't think Evan was holding anything when he was 3 months adjusted age.  Do you see EI?  Maybe ask them.  I do get most of his toys now according to what they bring for him to play with but I can't remember back that far.  how sad.

Sam is 3 months adjusted as well, and born at about the same age as your son, and he isn't grabbing for toys yet either. ?His OT says this should happen around month 4, but that all babies are different and progress at different times. ?She also said to expect preemies to hit their adjusted milestones even later than a full termer, b/c they have that much more catch-up to do. ?So I wouldn't worry--- he'll get there! ?BTW, the toys she said to get, to practice, are the ring toys (kind of like key chain ones) so that they can easily grab them when they're ready. ?GL!

I don't know of any special preemie toys, but this is the first toy that Marino reached for https://www.amazon.com/Sassy-LeapFrog-Baby-Curious-Rattle/dp/B000M50LYS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1228144429&sr=8-1 and it is still one of his favorites. The first time EI came, they used toys that had mirrors to get his attention.

If you aren't already getting help from EI, I would look into it, for piece of mind if nothing else. Having extra help and extra eyes can't hurt!

I don't know about special preemie toys but my guys didn't start to open their hands until almost 5mos and lifting arms until 6 mos.  We found the plastic links from our activity gym to be the best to grab initially.  We use them for everything.  I link them on the FP rainforest bouncy to the parrot and monkey so Evan can reach it. Now he doesn't need the extra help but would never have tried on his own because he couldn't reach it to swat at the toy. We also used to hang them from the mobile to entice them to swat and that helped too.  We stopped because now they can catch the chain of rings and pull.

Also our PT gave us these little maracas that are sure tiny and light weight which were very good for little hands.

We also bought the Sassy phone shaped rattle

and the Sassy double helix shapped rattle which is by far the best because its hard for them to let go of it.

(can;t find a pic of this one so it might be discontinued, I'll try to post a PIP of one of our guys holding it, we bought this at the Moms of multiples sale)

Also the 4inch Oball was what made the boys bring their hands together for the 1st time and transfer from one hand to the next.

They also love the Grab Apple:

And what got the boys to lift their legs and start grabbing their feet was a FP piano crib kick board.  Got it at the OUAC in Crofton for $2.50!!!

None of these we  special for preemies, they were just suggestions from others and ideas we came up with.  Good luck and let me know how it works out.
