Did you sit there for half an hour before someone even saw you, even though you are the only ones there? And then did they tell you how to eat healthy and what your baby should be eating? Then did they send you BACK out to the waiting room for another half hour before they called you up to sign stuff, again, WHEN YOU'RE THE ONLY ONES THERE?!?!
I'm sorry you guys have bad experiences with your WIC dept. Mine is okay, although they do always make me wait forever! I think it is totally worth it though.
I am sorry to hear this. I am a RD and have worked with WIC in two different states and also at the state level. There are usually choices in agencies offering WIC in most areas and to be honest with you there is usually a good and bad option to agencies. I have worked on both ends of the spectrum. It might be worth looking into seeing if there is another agency in your area if you are unhappy!
You are doing a great thing for you and your baby!
The staff at the WIC office I used to go to for DD#1 wasn't bad..it was everyone else in the waiting room a lot of the time that got me totally freaked out. Half the time kids were in just diapers and I distinctly remember a kid walking around with blood on his clothes..while I sat there with my baby. That being said, they helped us out SO much (especially since I EBF) with groceries and the amount of baby food we got when DD was on solids was insane.
Im a little torn about my WIC office; some of the women there are very sweet and helpful, but most of them are very condesending and short with people. There is always quite a wait too, seems like they schedule 20 woman all for 1pm! I show up 30 minutes early just so I dont have to wait more than an hour. (which I have had to do before) It's a great program though, milk costs about $5-8 a gallon on Oahu, so WIC has really saved us food cost wise!

Yeah, it's not the employee's (who are sadly understaffed) it's the other women. Like, majority are just letting their rugrats run amuck and scream and eat mcdonalds fries and coke for breakfast when their child, who looks under weight and/or under 1yo, is clearly crying for the childs next to them bottle. The quality of life is astonishing - and if they act like this is public you can only imagine what their home life is like
Going to the WIC office is always depressing. I really, really hate it. However, it helps out immensely when it comes to getting groceries so I plan to stick it out.

Yea, they're ridiculous. I hate going there.

I'm with you. I wish we could get WIC with the amount we are spending on formula...
