Baby Names

I'm not pregnant nor will I be any time soon but I just can't quit these name boards! Lol

What do you think of Charlie for a boy? I love it and you don't hear it often.

Re: Charlie?

This thread is kinda hilarious next to the Charlie vs. Charles thread below...

EDIT: That I think was DDed!  Wow - nothing bad was in there.  The OP wanted Charlie and her husband wanted Charles.  Most of the posters agreed with her husband because Charles gave the child more options as he grew.  Weird.

Anyway, OP - I love Charlie, but think it should be a nickname for Charles and not a stand alone name.  One day, your child may want a formal name for a variety of reasons and I don't like that naming him a nickname removes that choice.  You may only call him Charlie, but he may have other ideas.

  • I absolutely love it as a nickname for Charles.  I am a huge believer in giving a child a full-name (so that they can use it later if they want) and calling them a nickname. I have a "nickname" as my given full name, and I HATE that.

  • Charlie is actually a quite popular name in my neck of the woods right now, for both boy and girl babies. I definitely prefer Charlie to Charles!
  • My grandpa was a Charlie.  So I'm rather fond of it.

  • Looks like I'm in the minority here but I'm not a fan of Charlie as a standalone name. I absolutely love the nickname Charlie, but as a name, it just feels incomplete and very informal which is fine for a baby or kid, but not sure how the workforce would interpret it 25 years down the road. I also don't really like Charles as a name much (though it's a family name), but if I really wanted to use Charlie, I'd stick with Charles.
