I thought this would be a fun GTKY! Do you and your SO have a song/funny story to go along with how it came about?
Our first song is Grillz by Nelly, not at all romantic or attractive but one of the first nights we hung out together in college we bonded over knowing all the lyrics to Grillz... And possibly taking a lot of shots
Our second song, wedding song, actual couple-y song is I won't give up by Jason Mraz. It was super popular right before we got married and we never had an acceptable "wedding" type song so I deemed it our song and DH said ok lol.
Our song is "Always and Forever" by Heatwave. Old school song. But I used to tell him that I love him forever plus one more day. And there is a line similar to that in the song. We always stop what we are doing and sing it and make googly eyes at each other whenever it comes on.
"Uptown Girl" by Billy Joel. H is a little more rough around the edges than I am, and I used to live on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. He used to blast that song every time he picked me up.
Our wedding song is "Like I'm Gonna Lose You" by Megan Trainor and John Legend. I wanted a duet because it feels like it's telling a story. FH is also a firefighter, so I try to make every day count. The song that brought us together was "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen. I was running a summer softball league and noticed he didn't get out of the car until the song ended. I busted him for it and he didn't care. I liked that and we started talking more often because of that day.
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*
"It Had to be You" by Frank Sinatra. We did your first dance to the slow, jazzy swanky version and we both love it. Also "She's Like Texas" by Josh Abbott Band because we have good memories dancing to it together and DH likes to sing it to me.

So when we were dating, we had chosen 'A Thousand Years' as our song. Had full plans to use the instrumental version by The Piano Guys for our processional, and then the actual song for our first dance. Then in the last few months before our wedding, the song was EVERYWHERE. Everyone was using it for their weddings, and I because I'm not (AT ALL) into Twilight, I didn't realize how popular it was. I flat out refused to use a song that popular, and we scrambled to find all new wedding music. I still love the song and it gives me goosebumps, I just didn't want to be cliched and have people rolling their eyes going 'oh THIS song, everyone uses this song'.
(In case anyone was wondering - we used instrumental versions of 'Hallelujah' and 'I Can't Help Falling in Love' for the processional, and for our first dance song, I told everyone that we were using 'Heaven' by Bryan Adams, but actually used 'Because You Loved Me' by Celine Dion, which was my parents' song, and didn't tell my mom, so it was this big emotional moment when they played it. She bawled, and I was pretty proud of myself, haha).
We have a lot of stupid songs we do parodies to and stuff... we always sing stupid versions of 'Hooked on a Feeling' to each other, and we make up different versions to 'Sugar Sugar', usually to sing to the cat.

The first song that comes to mind is "I'll follow you into the dark" by Death Cab for Cutie because DH and I were emotional and moody in high school. Enough said.
Our wedding song was a mashup of two versions of 'Make you feel my love', one by Adele and the other Garth Brooks.
DHs song for me is 1,000 years. @MelissaM090 I feel you on the popularity. I actually walked down the aisle to the instrumental version instead of making it our wedding song!
Our wedding song was "A Thousand Years" like a million other people. But I love the song (not the movie) so I didn't care.
My best friend is a singer/songwriter so she actually sang one of her original songs as I was walking down the aisle. She started crying in the middle of it. It's one of my favorite memories from my wedding!

Our wedding song was "Whatever it is" by Zac Brown. DH chose it pretty early on in the wedding planning process and it was the perfect choice. Now, whenever it comes on the radio when he's in the car alone, he always records it and sends me a quick text with it. Definitely makes me smile and know that he's thinking of me.
@MrsDramaK H and I love Tswift, we've been to the past 4 of her tours, the last one twice. No shame! Our recessional song at our wedding was a classical guitar version of "Love Story".
Full disclosure: I let H pick our first dance song and I never remember what it is.
Our wedding song was "Hey Pretty Girl" by Kip Moore. We saw him in concert together and fell in love with the song. It always makes me smile whenever I hear it!

Ooo, this is a fun question! Our first dance song for our wedding was "If I Should Fall Behind" by Bruce Springsteen, so I'd consider that our first real couple-y song. But there are definitely others that I would consider "ours." For example, our favorite 90s dance jam is "No Diggity" by Blackstreet...whenever we hear that at a wedding or something, we seriously break.it.down on the dance floor.

I used to joke that "Moves Like Jagger" was our song because when we first started dating it was playing ALL THE TIME.
Our first dance was to "Your Song" by Elton John, but confusingly "Your Song" is not our song. We kind of have two. The first is "Mine" by Taylor Swift. Early in our relationship we were on a long road trip and the song came on and we both got a little teary with the "you are the best thing that's ever been mine" line. We didn't have that at the wedding because there is a line about a careless father and I didn't want my dad thinking I thought that about him.
Our other song is "I See the Light" from Disney's Tangled. It started as a joke - I'm an older Disney fan and I was super resistant to seeing Tangled, and DH wanted me to because he knew I'd love it. Finally, once it was off all the streaming sites, I decided I would give it a try so DH searched high and low for a place to find it so I could watch it. Once I finally saw it I loved it, and during "I See the Light" we did the teary thing again. It's such a happy memory that my phone case is an artistic rendering of all the lanterns being released.

We have a couple songs that we think of as "ours".
Our first dance was Into The Mystic by Van Morrison which I absolutely love. He picked it and it grew on me
we both used to have josh turners "would you go with me" as the ringtone for each other on our phones which was fun. As a joke we call Nicoleback "photograph" one of them because when we first started dated, his neighbor in the dorm left for the weekend and that song was on repeat for 72 hours straight. With how great college dorm walls are, it's all we could hear the entire weekend and now anytime it comes on we just start laughing.
Our first dance song was actually "I Don't Dance" by Lee Brice. It was funny because the day I picked it out DH asked me "am I going to have to dance at our wedding?" and I just started laughing because I had already picked out the song! If you haven't heard it before make sure you look it up, I cry every time I hear it!
PS I love reading everyone's songs and stories! Great Q @Schumerator!
@SnobunnieMel That is a ridiculously hilarious but also unfortunate story! I can't imagine any song on loop for 72 hours, let alone nickelback!
I feel like I have to admit one of my most embarrassing secrets here though: when I was in like middle school my dad loved Nickelback, and I kind of jumped on the bandwagon and even had an aim screen name for it along the lines of 'NickelbackHunni'.
So we started "going out" on June 1 and that entire summer we would do this thing where I would bring a cd and we'd hang out listening to it and I'd tell him what I liked about it, then the next time he'd do it with one of his favorites and that's how I turned him on to Ben Folds. That fall Rockin' the Suburbs was released and we made The Luckiest our song, which was our first dance at our wedding.
Other notables from when we first started out --- Clint Eastwood - Gorillaz Short Skirt Long Jacket - Cake Hate to Say I Told You So - The Hives Babylon/Please Forgive Me - David Gray
I have a huge playlist of "Our Songs." I highly recommend everyone start one and keep adding to it because it's fun to go back and think about that time/place/haircut haha and fall back in love with DH

I love this! You all have such great stories. We were just talking about this the other day about how we don't really have a song. H always likes singing to me though and I think it's super sweet. His favorite to sing is "Have I told you lately" by Rod Stewart. Gets me everytime. Haha
Its horrible but I don't remember the name of our first dance song. It was by Keith Urban...
@AliciaGoose I love that song! We used Garth Brooks' version of it as our wedding song. My DH never remembers it, though. Otherwise, we don't really have a song.
DH and I started dating during baseball season and would always get together with a group of friends to watch the Red Sox play at a local bar. We were keeping it quiet then, but always had a good time singing along to "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond during the seventh inning stretch. We still have a good time together when we hear it!
Our wedding song was "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis Presley - timeless and classic.

I walked down the aisle to an instrumental version of Love Story!! I love that it's a song I still hear on the radio/in random places and it will always remind me of that day.
I love everyone's songs! I don't know about all of you, but I also have songs with other people. My college roommates and I lived together for 3 years, and the last song we all danced together to was "Umbrella" by Rihanna. For months after graduation I gaspy-snot-cried every time it came on the radio. I still consider that our group song.
My best friend and I have been best friends since we were 14. When we were about 16, "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback was a really big deal, and it was being played EVERYWHERE. We used to say the song followed us around, it's still a running joke we have.
Anyone else have songs for those other than SOs?

@mrsdee15 ok sooo slightly embarrassing my best friend and I have a song... It's "You and Me" by life house, which sounds too romantic to be a best friend song but we actually bonded over that song when we were 14 and these two brothers we were dating broke up with us at the same time and we hung out at a park and cried and sang "it's yoooou and meeeee"! Literally one of the most pathetic moments of my life
@mrsdee15 I love that question! I definitely have songs with most of my best friends.
My oldest friend (I was 6, she was 5- wow, 20 years!) and I used to jam out to Rock and Roll All Night by Kiss on the trampoline all the time. My best friend from elementary school and I used to love to sing together and we somehow latched on to Follow Me by Uncle Kracker as our song. My high school best friend and I used to play drunk rockband all the time and our favorite was My Own Worst Enemy by Lit! These are just the old friends I'm still super close to. But I can think of songs I had with the friends I lost touch with as well! It's kind of crazy.
Great question @mrsdee15! My family and I have been vacationing in the Catskills (think a slightly run down Dirty Dancing-esque resort) for 30 years with the same group of people, and our group song is Piano Man. There's always a BBQ during the week and we always have the entertainer play it, and we all link arms and do the "sway."
A smaller group of us also do stupid things, like getting drunk and then taking a midnight hike through bear infested woods on our last night of vacation to a rocky outcropping above the inn we stay at. We light a bonfire in the clearing, drink some more, and play Save Tonight by Eagle-Eye Cherry. It's always bittersweet because we aren't all together again then for a whole year.
Our first dance was "I Can't Help Falling in Love With You" by Elvis Presley. DH told me that he had that song on repeat on his drive over to pick me up before he proposed. I thought it was so sweet and really meant a lot to me. We were going to dance to "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran, but too many people were using it and it was overplayed. We changed our minds and wanted to choose something timeless, that meant a lot to us. Our current song is "I Just Had Sex" by Lonely Island...because we're 12. Lol! I started playing it after we'd BD as a joke. DH thought it was hilarious and started requesting it. Lol!
Wedding Song was "You had me from Hello" by Kenny Chesney, because DH said it suited how our relationship had been from day 1 (and here I thought he wasn't the sentimental type)
Love everyones songs. There are a lot of really good ones in the mix!
Re: GTKY: Do you and your SO have a song?
Our wedding song was "Ho Hey" by the Lumineers. ☺️

My best friend and I have been best friends since we were 14. When we were about 16, "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback was a really big deal, and it was being played EVERYWHERE. We used to say the song followed us around, it's still a running joke we have.
Anyone else have songs for those other than SOs?
then 3 failed IUIs, and finally a successful IVF FET.

Great idea for the GTKY, @Schumerator!

Our current song is "I Just Had Sex" by Lonely Island...because we're 12. Lol! I started playing it after we'd BD as a joke. DH thought it was hilarious and started requesting it. Lol!
Love everyones songs. There are a lot of really good ones in the mix!
