I was just wondering how many I should buy at first. I am looking at buying Bum Genuis 3.0 (probably all-in-one). How many diapers do newborns go through in a day?
you may have a tough time fitting a newborn into a BG... the BG is going to be big & bulky for a newborn. popular choices for newborns are kissaluv 0 (KL0) with thirsties or prowraps covers... or prefolds. I have about 35 diapers and i do laundry more or less every 2nd or 3rd day.
Also, the BG AIO is sized, so I don't think bulk would be too much of a problem if you got the smallest size (do they make XS?). I'm not speaking from experience, since I didn't CD DD as a newborn, but I liked the fit of these diapers.?
?The BG 3.0 one size would for sure be really bulky on a newborn.?
For a newborn, I personally would plan on having at least 18 diapers on hand, more if you want to get by with doing laundry every other day.?
Newborns need to be changed every 2 hours or so, so figure on 12 diapers a day. If you have 24, you will need to wash every other day. If you have more, you can go a little longer. I have 2 dozen prefolds and 2 dozen fitteds (Snugglebottoms) in the newborn size, but I still plan to wash every 2-3 days. I'll just have extra prefolds on hand to use as burp cloths or whatever, or I'll have extra time to let the diapers dry on the line before I run out.
From what I understand, BGs don't fit in the newborn stage, so you'll need something to cover the gap if that's what you want to use, whether you wait to start cloth until they fit, or buy newborn sized cloth diapers. Kissaluv size 0 fitteds or Green Mountain Diaper prefolds and Thirsties XS covers are really popular for the newborn stage.
