It is recommended that the first time you use them to boil them since the sanitize cycle doesn't last as long as the recommended sterilization time. After that, we just washed them in the dishwasher.
there is a food safety person on another board i go on - she said today's dishwashers DO get hot enough to sterilize - no need to boil anything nor put in the microwave.
personally i will never microwave plastics - even bpa free ones.
we never boiled or "sterilized" Ds's bottles or nipples - just washed in very hot soapy water or in the dishwasher- he's been a very healthy kid other than typical daycare colds here and there. Germs are good for kids- if they don't get any they end up with allergies, etc.

Doesn't it get washed off with all that hot water though?! Eh I'm not that paranoid. I'm going to do it this way.
