I think it all depends on you and your little ones. We transitioned the girls to 4 bottles a day very gradually but it was also at around 2 1/2 months when we started the transition. We just started making their bottles with 1 oz more than usual and letting them eat as much of it as they wanted. Soon they were getting 6-7 oz 4 times a day instead of 4-5 oz 5 times a day. Now they get about 28 oz every day and 1 snack of cereal/veggie mix. It did take us a good month or so from when we started to get them to this point though.
FWIW: We have their 6 month appt in 2 weeks but at their 4 month appt they were 12lbs1oz and 12lbs12oz so they aren't sumo babies but they are very long. They just have very big appetites. It doesn't hurt to give it a shot but your guys may not want to transition. Good Luck and I hope this helps.
