  • I've started with fruits with my last 2, and no problems switching. So my vote is apple!

But for vegetables...try pumpkin!  Perfect for the holiday.  She loves that with a dash of cinnamon.   Or squash (butternut or acorn) or carrots.

You can do carrots and then make this:

  • Or, you said you were ok with banana or pear. Try this:

  • Green beans and butternut squash are pretty popular at our house!  (As you can tell, by tonight's spattering of green goo on our kitchen windows!)

  • DS loves squash (acorn and butternut), peas, pears, green beans, carrots, apples, peaches. We haven't tried spinach yet - I haven't seen any spinach jars and wholesomebabyfood.com made me nervous about making my own because of possible issues with storage and nitrate levels.

I put butternut squash flesh side down in about in inch of water and cook for 45 min - 1 hour.

Cut in half, scoop out seeds. Put flesh-down on a baking sheet with a half-inch of water. Bake at 400 for 45-60 mins. Scoop fesh right out of the skin into your preferred method of pureeing.

  • We've tried sweet potatoes, green beans, sweet peas, acorn squash, carrots & corn (started yesterday).  She likes them all.  The carrots/green beans have to be mixed with a fruit or sweet potatoes for her to eat them though.

  • i've read that you want to stay away from certain foods that are high in nitrates, such as spinach, carrots, green beans, collard greens and beets until 8 months of age, they could cause anemia.

so far we have just introduced rice and oatmeal cereals but will be giving sweet potatoes tonight.  then butternut squash, bananas, avocado, pears and peas.
