Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What did you give your child after Stage 1 foods?

Obvious answer is Stage 2, but did you start with puffs or anything else like stuff you just made and gave to them? Daycare thinks DD is ready for something besides Stage 1 food. I'm hesitant b/c she doesn't sit up on her own completely yet and I am terrified of choking, but I want to see what everyone here things.

  • I think I introduced puffs a little after 6 months.  There wasn't really any order, it was more of a "let's try these today" kind of thing.  He definitely had stage 2 food before puffs, though.  hth.

  • We moved on to stage two foods, but have not introduced puffs or any other finger foods yet.  I'm waiting until he's got the pincer grasp down before I give him finger foods.
  • DD had her checkup appt yesterday and she is still on Stage one. ?The dr said go to stage 2 next....but we can also do biter biscuits (just watch out that after they gum them for awhile, chunks can come off and you need to be ready to swipe them out), pastina, mashed potatoes (without "the good stuff" as she said...no milk or butter), banana etc. ?She did not recommend puffs until around 9 months old when their pincher grasp is really good and they are more accustomed to "chunks" in their food. ?Hope that helps!

  • We did stage 2, and puffs and cheerios pretty quickly after that (like within the week).  I noticed that Quinn has an easier time chewing cheerios than she does puffs.  (I don't have a point of reference from my other kids because puffs didn't EXIST back then...lol)  I've also given her toast, and a TEENSY piece of pot roast the other day.

The only solid I've tried to give her that she resisted is little chunks of banana.

  • We did stage 2 next and soon after puffs, Cherrios and biter biscuits. DS had his pincher grip down and was able to feed himself all of these things right away. My best friends baby still cannot feed himself puffs or Cheerios. I think it just depends on the baby. Try them out, you can quickly tell if they are ready or not :)

  • I make DD's food and while she's in the "stage 2" category in terms of taste, the texture is still pretty smooth. We've tried chunky and she doesn't do well with it. She choked on a puff a couple of weeks ago, so I am holding off on reintroducing them.
