Hmm... good question... I hated my boppy and I would definetly say milk storage bags and pacifiers. I never pumped more than a 4 oz bottles worth (after 8 pumping sessions a day) and he would only take Soothie pacifiers (which I only had the hospital ones). Oh and the pee pee tee pee was a waste too... he never ever has peed on me
Lets not forget my 2 failed CD attempts... at least I ebayed them cheap and sold them for the same price
Mom to Harmon 1/17/08 and twins Rachel & Callum 8/28/09
The My Breast Friend. I bought it certain that I would breastfeed. It never happened. The nursing cover made a great pumping cover, but there was simply no alternate use for the My Breast Friend. It never saw a single day of use.
Diaper Genie. We used it for the first month and then realized it was easier to use the garbage in her bathroom. Though I did not use the Boppy for nursing, I used it to prop myself up while nursing (behind my back). I think I also wasted money trying to find a bottle that worked for DD. I nursed primarily, but for the times she got bm from the bottle, she would scream and was not happy. We ended up using Born Free bottles, but I think that was the third type we tried.
There were other things that were useful, but DD grew so fast that we didn't use them very long (bumbo, swing, exersaucer, many clothes, etc.).
Definitely the glider and matching ottoman. Everyone told me I HAD to have it.
I found feeding ds was easier on the couch. RIght now the glider is holding most of ds's stuffed animals and the ottoman is under a pile of boxes. What a waste! $800 total!
3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again
It will be different for everyone, I guess. I used the My Brest Friend pillow for 13 months. I still use our wonderful glider & ottoman, and our Diaper Champ.
I guess what I wasted the most money on was:
1. Travel system. I really wish I had just gotten the Snap-n-Go. We never used the travel system stroller after she was out of the infant seat.
2. Lots of bottles. I stocked up and she ended up refusing the bottle. Never took one. But that is obviously an individual thing.
3. Any clothes that I bought myself was a waste. My mother has bought her enough clothes to last her till age 5. LOL
CLOTHES! i could not help myself and bought a crap ton of clothes for DS and a lot of the super cute stuff he never even got to wear! I have really tried to cut back on the spending so he can wear everything that he has in his size.
Breast Pump - i bought the *best* one out there and used it ONCE! BF'ing/pumping just didn't work for me and DS so it is just sitting in my spare room collecting dust.
This really cute diaper bag that I had made with his name on it. It was not useful and has spent most of its time hanging on a door. I guess I could count it as decor since it matches his nursery. Otherwise I think we did a good job of holding off on stuff until we determined if we needed it.
Edit: I just thought of something. I never used that sheet thing that is suppose to absorb the pee. I can't remember what it is called. Everyone on the Nest talked about how it was a must have. It was no problem to just change a sheet at night quickly and I have never taken it out of its package.
Nursing pillow--had lots of trouble breastfeeding/pumping and never used it.
Snugli carrier and Infantino SlingRider, Never got to use them when he was first born b/c it was in the dead of winter so by the time it warmed up he was 5 mos old and didn't like being contained/harnessed into anything.
I didn't spend a whole bunch on much of anything. I was with my sister when my nephew was born, so I saw what she used and what she didn't. I also have a niece who is just a year and half older then Hayden. We got tons of clothes and stuff handed down. I think I probably wasted money on breastmilk bags. I had planned on pumping, but I had a problem with production. I passed the bags on to another mom I knew who was pumping, so it really was not wasted.
Definitely the PISA. I used it for maybe 6 weeks, then decided that the HArmony is so much easier and portable. The stupid thing cost nearly $300 and is sitting in its box in a closet : (
Does anyone want to sell your pump that you never used? I have an ancient one, but I would love a newer one. But I can't afford to buy one brand new, especially when I have one that works OK! I'll pay for you to ship yours to me! Email me if you want to talk about it: becanddane@hotmail.com
I have 2 baby robes (they were gifts) that I have NEVER used.
The pee pee tent thing. DS has peed on us NUMEROUS times, and that thing never helped. He moved around too much and that thing always fell off.
I love my glider and ottoman though!
DS never liked the swing either, and he didn't sit in his bouncy seat very often either. He really didn't like anything that he was confined in.
The travel system was such a waste, I should have just gone with the snap n go and now we use a Bob, which is my favorite baby thing ever. The PNP was a waste too, didn't get much use out of that.
Yeah- for every person that loved an item, you're going to find one that never used it.
For me it was the Boppy and the 4 different slip covers. I pumped, I didn't really have a need for it. I propped DD up on it a few times, but I could have used a pillow if I didn't have the Boppy.
I also didn't think about the quantities. I have way too many washcloths, towels, sheets and rec blankets.
That double head support thing that goes in the infant seat. ?THe one that came in the seat along with some receiving blankets worked just fine until he was big enough to support himself.?
Yeah I never used the infant bundle me. I took it back and recently I got the Toddler Bundle me, which I have been using a lot. I love that thing. Now that Aidan is old enough to kick the blankets off!
I also never used the Bumbo or Bebe pod. His legs were too big to fit in either one.
I never really used my sterilizer, I preferred to boil things.
id have to say it was the diaper champ, we found it easier to just use plastic bags and get rid of them quicker. the hooded towels, she was always so big they never wrapped around her, we had to buy the kids ones!
the pnp we only used while she was on the bili-light and now it just sits downstairs.
the changing table, we used until she could roll over, now it just sits and collects junk.
i love love love my glider and ottoman though...use it all the time! we use the ottoman to change her diapers!
Definitely Glider and ottoman. We paid about $800 for both and only use during the first 2 months of it. right now it's just filling up his bedroom space. What a waste of money. Also Bumbo - didn't know why i decided to get this one.
Travel swing. DS LOVED his big swing though. We bought the travel swing for a vacation and thats the only time we used it (for about 5 days). It's like new. We are holding onto it though for #2.
The duck tub. I haven't even taken it out of the box yet.

My Medela PISA! I used it here and there until Jude was about 4 months, then stopped because he stopped taking a bottle.. what a waste of $300. Our strollers have been a big waste so far because he hates them... hated the swing and Bumbo, too, but someone gave them to us second-hand.
I bought tons of doubles/triples (crib sheets, PNP sheets, boppy covers, etc). I guess I though I'd never do laundry or something or she was just a pristine little pumpkin
didn't get much use out of our regular Chicco highchair due to her love of the Stokke one.
mobile, bedding set (never used toddler blanket or bumper)
For me - I wish I hadn't spent so much on DD #1's bedding set. I like the set, but I should have went cheaper than I did. Also way too many clothes.
Many things people listed, I loved! Bumbo, boppy, milk storage bags, lots of (cheap) receiving blankets (they double as great jumbo burp cloths!), swing, glider and ottoman (loved it with #1 then moved it into #2's room when she was born - still love it)...I could go on.
Besides, remember even if your first made bumbo or swing seem like a waste...if you have a second, things may be different as each baby is different!

WOW, it is so interesting how different people are. Many things that people have listed I have used endlessly. I'm surprised by people not using their glider and ottoman. I have an old fashioned wooden rocking chair in the nursery and have always wanted a glider and ottoman. DH and I both decided we'd invest in a really good one if/when we become pregnant again but we do use the rocking chair all the time so I see no reason why we wouldn't use the glider. What I didnt' use was my ring sling, he never seem to fit in it or be comfortable. I've used my Ergo perhaps 4 times and the Baby Bjorn that I won from the nest!! and got very late has actually been used the most though I think he has either just exceeded the weight or is about to.

IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again
BeBe pod...never used it.
Swing...he hated it
Boppy...used regular pillows instead
Glider and ottoman...used it because I had it, but I sat on the couch more than anything.
The Medela Harmony Manual Single pump. I nursed DS on demand and eventually started manually expressing milk for storage. This pump was too slow.
It will be different for everyone, I guess. I used the My Brest Friend pillow for 13 months. I still use our wonderful glider & ottoman, and our Diaper Champ.

the bumbo
the swing
the crib- we're co-sleeping
the alphabet foam letters floor mat-- they come apart too easily
This really cute diaper bag that I had made with his name on it. It was not useful and has spent most of its time hanging on a door. I guess I could count it as decor since it matches his nursery. Otherwise I think we did a good job of holding off on stuff until we determined if we needed it.

Hmm..
The full size swing - he much prefered the little travel one (as did I)
too many crib sheets
too many blankets/receiving blankets. We only use a few but have a ton!
too many bottles. We breastfeed and he rarely took a bottle so that was a waste.

waste of money:
Bumbo seat with tray..never liked it.
Travel system..I wish I would have bought a snap and go too.
Wipe Warmer
Snugli baby carrier
ok what is a CD?
id have to say it was the diaper champ, we found it easier to just use plastic bags and get rid of them quicker. the hooded towels, she was always so big they never wrapped around her, we had to buy the kids ones!

i think thats it!
boppys and bumbo trays.
we very rarely used the boppys and never used the bumbo trays. oh well.
thank god we borrowed most of our expensive stuff (the bumbos themselves, swings, papasan chairs)

definetly the glider and ottoman
too many bottles (thank god for the BPA scare, I was able to return them all)
Boppy,
bumble seat,
diaper champ/genie
Angel Care monitor - scared the crap out of us, we returned it for a video monitor
bumbo and tray
LOTS of clothes she didn't wear
