Straight to whole milk?

I keep seeing posts where people are slowing moving DC over to regukar milk instead of formula. Our doctor said to just switch him right away. Anyone else not switching slowly? We havn't tried yet, the dr told us to go ahead and use up the formula we have left first.

I love my crazy child!

Re: Straight to whole milk?

  • We didn't transition slowly.  We started Aidan on whole milk beginning at 11 months so that by 1 year we could move him over completely.  I had no issues with it, he loves whole milk and drinks it down fast!!!

  • we moved her to 2% milk (doc said she didnt need whole milk, she was already big!).  at first we mixed in formula, but then she wouldnt drink the formula at all, so now she just drinks the milk.
  • DD is still BF, but I started giving her a sippy of whole milk with meals at 10 mo.
  • Cold turkey here - straight to whole milk. Our pedi recommended it and it worked great.

  • With DD#1 we went cold turkey - straight to whole milk.  But with DD #2 it seemed more of a transition because she would grab DD #1's sippy of milk and drink it herself, but I didn't really offer it until a bit later.
  • My intention was to do it cold turkey. However, DD threw an absolute fit...whether it was from a sippy cup or from a bottle. She literally would not let any pass her lips. My pediatrician gave me some dumb advice about how I should play tea party with her to try and get her to drink it. Um...right...

Also, DD is on medicine that requires she take in a lot of fluids so it wasn't an option for us to go the route of "drink the milk or drink nothing." Therefore, we're mixing and transitioning her slowly.

  • With K it was cold turkey. He loved it and there was no problem. With M it seems to be a transition like pp. M takes sips from K's cup all the time. I used to stop him but now he's almost 11 months so I just let it go. In fact I think I'm just going to buy one or two more things of formula and that's it.
  • I will be moving right to whole milk from formula when we finish the can we have open now.  I don't see the point in taking it slow.  I know she does fine with dairy so I'm not worried about that and I honestly think going cold turkey works best.  I did it with my older DD with no issues.

  • We switched right away.  Dr said try it, if she can handle it go for it.  If she has a reaction then do gradual.  We had no problems switching.
