Babies: 9 - 12 Months

When did you officially retire the swing?

DD stopped swing napping about a month ago and has been doing great. She no longer uses it during the day and is rotated between the exersaucer and floor time (some on tummy and some on back).

Should I retire it at home as well? She's in it right now but it's the first time in a few weeks....

Re: When did you officially retire the swing?

  • About two months...it stopped swinging fast because he was getting heavier...

  • We had to move it out of our living room in December (when DD was 7 months) so we would have a place to put our Christmas tree and DD hasn't really used it since.

  • DS hasn't been in his for at least 2 or 3 months.  He never liked the big one and when he started trying to sit up in his smaller swing it made me nervous that it would tip.

  • He always hated it lol. I just completely gave up on it a couple months ago and put it away. Maybe the next one will like it!
  • We still have ours up and running. DS doesn't use it that often anymore. He was a serious swing addict but I broke that habit. I'll probably keep it until he starts to not like it anymore, or when it no longer swings.
  • I would have loved to use it for relaxation or something, a place to hang out for 10/15mins, but our swing always equalled sleeping and even that stopped at 3mos. It had been sitting there until the Xmas tree needed a home so we packed it up and put it in storage late November. I had tried it once in hopes she'd like to just chill in it but that did not work.

All told, it was probably the least useful item we bought if you think about how expensive it was (papasan starlight) and how many hours of use it recieved (maybe a part of 3 or 4 nights and possibly 10 naps).

  • she still uses it for naps in the morning. am i supposed to retire it?

    Check the weight guidelines.

  • When she was around 5 months she started attempting to crawl out and wouldn't lay back in it so we shoved it in her closet. She stopped napping in it around 3 months. I'm hoping #2 likes it more.

  • DD was never really into her swing. She uses it maybe once every couple of weeks now and that's simply when I need to do something (cook dinner/vaccuum, etc.) and she gets unhappy with floor time or doesn't want to be in her bumbo.

  • we used that thing forever- until he outgrew the weight restriction.  that was one baby product that I definitely got my money's worth out of.

  • When DD was about 4 1/2 months...she hated it!
  • It was retired at about 4 months.
  • We retired it when she started trying to jump out of it, around 4 months or so.
