***The mcurbans are heading to Houston!***

One of Jon's colleagues has a contact who knows one of the Administrative Directors at MD Anderson.  They want to see us ASAP (before Jon starts his treatment here). Seriously, they are on.the.ball. down there. Jon emailed this guy on Friday and by lunch time today the fellow had called Jon's cell, called Jon's work and emailed him back.

Turns out, Jon is kind of a genetic freak. So, they are interested in him. I'm interested in him, too, but his freaky genes aren't a part of that.

  • Wow, that is awesome!  When are you going?  G/L!

  • That's so great.  A good friend of mine is a reasearcher for MD Anderson and she always tells me if I ever have a family member who needs help to send them down there first.

They have such a good reputation and such great recovery rates.

  • That's great!  My dad is currently a lab rat there (as he calls it).  The normal treatments don't work for him anymore but he does any and every trial he can.  They are so great at MD Anderson!  You never have to pay for anything and the doctors are some of the best in the world.

  • That's great...well not about him being a genetic freak but that y'all are getting this opportunity.  But him being a freak of nature helped, right?  Smile  We'll continue to send tons of prayers your way!!

Hee!  That totally cracks me up!

Anyway, best of luck at MD Anderson!  I always felt so safe living in Houston with their great medical facilities -- glad that you're getting the opportunity to be seen there.

AND if you need any info about stuff in Houston to do while J is being tested, give a shout and I (and some others on the board too  I'm sure who are also native Houstonians) would be glad to help.  I would definitely recommend taking Jack to the zoo -- very close to MD Anderson etc.

  • CONGRATS!  That is the place to be for treatment!  I too am a genetic/medical nut.  DH has a congenital heart defect (and has had 5 open heart surgeries) and two weeks ago on GMA they did a story about valve replacement through a catherter and not open heart surgery.  I contacted the university and trial that is doing it to make sure they include adult patients that have a congenital defect in their study.  I got an email the other day that b/c of my email, they are going to now include adults that were born w/ a heart defect in this medical breakthrough experiment!

GL at MD Anderson!  We'll keep you in our thoughts.

  • Excellent that he'll be able to be seen there!
  • I hope they take good care of Jon.  My MIL's good friend would go there weekly for his pancreatic cancer and they were great at helping him so I'm sure with Jon's "connections" he'll be well taken care of.  :)

    **good luck dust**

  • Wow, good luck!! ?I hope this will be a very good thing for Jon.

  • That is great news. I hope you find out some excellent new info and news. You all are still in my prayers!
  • That is such great news! My dad is still alive because of the care he has received there. Jon is going to be in good hands!
  • Hooray for the hope of an even better plan. I have heard some really inspiring stories from people who were treated there. Actually, I have heard only good things about them.

  • That is GREAT news!!  Good luck and lots of prayers to you all.
  • Under the circumstances that sounds like great news.  MD Anderson is such a great hospital and I'm sure your DH is interested in getting a 2nd opinion.  Good Luck with everything and we are all thinking about you.
  • GL and I will be thinking of you!

  • That is wonderful!  They should be able to work out a great treatment plan, which can most likely be carried out here in Austin.

    Have a safe trip!

  • I hope that all goes well
