Re: *Weekly Mom Check-in*
Married to my BFF on 8.13.05 (after dating 5 years)!
DS born 2.14.08. DD born 9.30.09.
We had the hardest time coming up with a boy name. We had other possiblities, but it just didn't seem to fit. We kept coming back to Brandon though, and there it is. We wanted something somewhat normal but not too common (so no Jacob for us!)
His middle name is Robert. My dad is Robert, and dh is Rob. Thus, we though it would be a good middle name.
B is now sitting up more and more. I still have the boppy behind him because I don't trust him, but he doesn't need it very often. He's also started rice cereal, and we'll start some veggies later this week (don't know what yet though!)
It took a while for us to name DS. I loved the name Jack, and couldn't decide if he would be just Jack, or Jackson. All the while, DH wanted to honor his father in some way (who passed away back in '93). DH's father's name was Jerry Ted. Neither one of us could come up with a variation of that name that we liked, so one day I said to DH, "If this is your only son, what would you like his name to be?" and DH replied John Jr. Well, Jack is a nickname for John Jr., so that's where his name came from.
It's my husband's name, that's the tradition in their family. If we had a girl I would have gotten to pick the name.
C is rolling all over the place and wants to crawl but can't quite figure out how. He's starting his transition to the big infant room at daycare next week! He's been eating veggies - he likes green beans, squash, and sweet potatoes.

Nora is a simple, classic name we both loved. Lee is my mother's middle name as well as mine (although mine is spelled Leigh).
Nora has become quite the little chatterbox over the last week or so. Everything we say, she tries to copy. She says her name but it comes out "Nora Blahhhhh". She also really enjoys copying and saying "Shi*" which apparently her mother blurts out way too often.
QOTW: How did you come up with your DC's name (s) (First and Middle)? We saw Mya in a baby name book and just fell in love with it. Originally we wanted Ava but then a friend of ours named their child Ava and someone in our neighbor has a child named that too so we went on the search for a different name that something short and pretty since our last name is hard to spell and pronounce. Her middle name is Frances after my late grandmother. We thought it sounded pretty together. For baby #2 we plan to choose a middle name from DH's side of the family.
We had a very tough time with names. We decided not to find out the gender of the baby while I was pregnant, so we had to come up with both a boy's and a girl's name. Early on, we thought we'd have an easier time with a girl's name, but that turned out not to be the case!
DH is very visual and had a hard time coming up with names on his own. So I just started writing down names I liked as I thought of them, and every couple of weeks, we'd sit down with the list and go through it to see if anything sounded good to us. The hardest part was that our last name is Smith. We wanted a more traditional name, and finding one to use that doesn't have seventy-trillion other Smiths using it is hard.
We finally settled on Justin. We had narrowed it down to two names that we liked about equally, and Justin edged out the other. We were going to use the other one for a middle name, but then I had the brilliant idea of using DH's first name for his middle name. Justin Thomas sounded great to us and we are very happy with his name.
Tyler Anthony arrived on 9.21.09
The Chronicles of Justin and Tyler
We've had Logan picked out long before we were ever expecting. It's the only boy's name we could agree on. When I was 7m pregnant we found one more boy's name we both liked so we're in the clear when we go for #2 (just stumbled upon it one day). His middle name, Charles, is a 2-fer--it's after my dad and DH's grandpa.
Logan is pulling up on everything. It's his favorite thing in the world. Still no crawling--he's been rocking on all fours for about a month. He started cruising yesterday though so who knows if he'll ever crawl.
QOTW:
Avery - from the character in Charlotte's Web
Dianne - my paternal grandmother's name
Owen - just liked it and wasn't already used by friends/family
Gregory - my father's name
Updates: Owen has started running and loves to say "uh-oh" everytime he drops something off his highchair.
I have no interesting story here,.... we just liked the name!
Ryan is my brothers name. He was 21 when J was born, so I think he felt prtty proud of his namesake!
We also already have a name for baby #2, if it's a girl. But we decided this time to keep it a surprise for fam and friends!
Evelyn picked up "oh sh*t!" from me. I was so annoyed b/c I've been getting on DH's case to cut back his swearing around the kids (he's got a mouth like a longshoreman) and of course, she manages to pick up the one potty word that I use and DH doesn't. Urgh. The good news is that after about a 2 weeks of just ignoring it, she stopped saying it.
My daughter's first name is my DH's grandmother's name. My DD's middle name is my middle name. It was very difficult to choose, but it definitely fits her.
We've always used the baby names section of the social security website for name ideas. We looked at the Top 500 from the previous year, and I ruled out anything in the Top 100. With Piper we threw around a few names we found on there and were almost decided on Corinne a few days before my due date. I love the name, but I don't think we were completely sold on it and DH randomly said "let's think of some names from TV shows" - we had just watched Charmed and I said "Hmm, Piper?" (which was on the SS list, but we hadn't picked it ironically). DH loved it and we debated Corinne or Piper for a few more days until deciding on Piper. We just picked Anne because we wanted a one-syllable name that sounded good with Piper. We also wanted something more traditional that she could use if she grows up and hates the name Piper.
Kadence's name was straight from the SS list. I made DH sit down and read the list and make a list of the names he liked from it, and this was one of the only ones on his list that I liked too. We disagreed over the spelling though and Kadence is our compromise (He wanted Kaydence; I wanted Cadence). Same story with the middle name, Paige - something more traditional that sounded good with Kadence.
Allison "Allie" was the only remotely normal name my DH would consider. Since I had to choose between Allie and Althea, the decision was easy. Jayne was my deceased Mom's name. Too plain for my taste for a first name but I knew that I had to have it as part of DD's name so it became her middle name.
Allie is doing well. She sleeps 8+ hours at night the majority of the time which is fabulous! She wants to stand up all of the time on our laps so we've tried the exersaucer a few times. She seems to like it because she can stand. She's "talking" a lot more now and is just so much fun. We have her 2 month appointment on Wednesday so we'll see how much she's grown.

I would like to be added on the list
Edd: 7-15-2009
We had a tough time with names. We finally came to an agreement 1 week before DD was born. Years ago I had a co-worker named Melia, which I always loved. Then about a month before DD was born I found the Hawaiian spelling of Maleah, that was it for me (we got engaged and went on our honeymoon to Hawaii). Middle name is my maiden name.
Maleah is finally falling asleep on her own in the crib. It has been 2 weeks now, and went pretty well from the beginning. Very nice surprise!
Updates: Charlotte's 1 month old today, wow!
Name - First, we just liked it and DH loves the thought of calling a little girl Charlie for short (he's already calling her that). I like that it's more of a classic name but doesn't sound "old." Middle name is after my older sister who passed away after fighting leukemia for 5 years - so that's pretty special.
QOTW: How did you come up with your DC's name (s) (First and Middle)?
Believe it or not, I get asked this a lot! ha ha! DH actually first mentioned Ryan for a girl when we were dating. He heard it somewhere on tv and thought it was cool. Then he mentioned it to one of his cousins and found out that her sister's middle name was Ryan. He didn't even know that. It took him a little while to convince me of it. My sister actually had a girlfriend named Ryan as well and I asked her what she thought about it and she said at first she hated it, but now she loves it. We debated a little while about spelling it differently but then decided to keep it that standard spelling so she wouldn't have to spell her name all the time. Her middle name is Elizabeth which is my middle name. I wanted to make sure her middle name was a classic female name.
We have ZERO ideas for baby #2! DH keeps pushing for Craig which is his middle name but I'm not sold. Maybe as a middle name.
I had liked the name Elena for a long time. DH liked the name but wanted to spell it different (Elayna) but after a few weeks of thinking about he changed his mind. He was concerned that people would pronounce it wrong. Her middle name is Katherine which is my first name, my MIL's first name and my mom's middle name.
Updates- nothing great to report. She has decided she wants to scream bloody murder for 20-30 minutes each night before we put to bed. I can't wait for this phase to be over.
Emma was the only girls name that we could agree on. And, I've always loved the name Grace. I love how it sounds together.
Emma is doing great, she is growing so fast. She hasn't rolled over yet, and I don't think she is interested too much in it. She is more interested in trying to sit up. And, like MrsVetter - she is crying/screaming between 15 and 30 minutes every night before bed. The first few weeks of sleeping in her crib (we started about a month ago) were way better...not sure what this sudden onset of screaming is all about!
We just loved the name Ellie. I felt strongly that I wanted her to have a more formal name too, so we considered lots of options. Eliza was the only one that felt like her. Sue is my middle name and my mother's.
As for updates, Ellie will be 9 months old tomorrow! I LOVE this age. She is so much fun and she learns something new every day. In addition to playing Patty-cake, waving and giving kisses, she added a new trick: "So big." She repeats everything we say, which is hilarious. This morning she whacked her head and I said "bonk" and she said "bop" back. My sister said, "Hey, hey, hey" in front of her the other day and she repeated "Ay, ay, ay." She cracks us up. She says hi and Jessie (which apparently means dog) and ahma for mama (only when she's upset). She is trying to pull up on everything and can stand on her own when she's holding on to something. She is getting so big I can't stand it!

We were thinking of the name Brynn and both liked it, but it just sounded odd with her already chosen middle name and last name. I didn't like Breanna, which was DH's favorite. I had visions of people calling her Bree...brie is cheese. No good. I saw Brenna on a name website and we both fell in love with it.
Brenna is now sitting unassisted for extended periods of time. She lasts over 5 minutes unless she feels the need to go after a toy or her feet. The next two teeth are present, but they haven't erupted yet. Oh joy!
DH's middle name is Anthony, so we knew we would use that as DS's middle name. The first name was the hard part. DH turned his nose up to everything I suggested. Then Caleb just hit me one day. It went well with Anthony so we would refer to my baby bump as Caleb. It just sounded right...so we went with it!
Caleb is talking! Well...sort of. He says ap-pul...which means apple. He loves when grandpa lets him take a bite of apple so it's a fitting first word! He had his 1 year appt Friday and is 22# and 31.25".
Jennie
Ava Caroline - Ava I came across years ago when I read in a magazine that Heather Locklear had named her baby girl Ava and I thought it was pretty. Caroline I've liked since I was a little girl... I used to wish it was my name. I decided to put them together and DH liked it too. We had her name picked out before we were even expecting (actually before we were even married, lol). That one couldn't have been easier.
Charlotte Grace - Hers wasn't already decided on for years ahead of time, but was still fairly easy to pick. It helps that we are picky and only have a handful of names even in consideration
We just went with our favorites off our short list and put Charlotte Grace together. Also, I will add that even though we've already decided on Charlotte Grace, I feel like I'm going to have to look at this baby when she comes out and make sure that she is a Charlotte. With Ava, I knew- it felt like it was her name but I I feel like I am going to have to see Charlotte first before it is officially official. Elisabeth was a very close second, so I have that in my pocket if we decide she's not a Charlotte.
Updates- Ava has more energy than I have ever seen in a person, and I wish I had half of it! She is so much fun though. She is doing something new (and usually hilarious) everyday, repeating everything, starting to put words together to form sentences and she just doesn't seem "babyish" anymore. She's more and more a kid than a baby each day. She has a well visit tomorrow. She's 17 mos. but it is her 15 mo. visit since we delayed the shots she needed then due to some other symptoms she had going on, which her doc was fine with. We are finally getting her in for it now since we have the 18 mo. well visit just around the corner- I cannot believe she is only a month away from being 1 and a half! Also, Charlotte is moving around like you wouldn't believe. I seriously didn't feel this much movement from Ava until very close to delivery. My next appt. is on the 2nd and I'm sure we'll be scheduling the glucose tolerance tes at that appt. FUN!
When we found out I was PG, DH and I immediately both suggested the name Madelyn for a girl... it was so funny that it was a name we both liked, but had never discussed together.
I am a French teacher, and my ancestry is French, so I was leaning towards a name to match my heritage and interests. Also, we needed a name that was not synonymous with any problem students of mine- which can be difficult! We had a tough time with a possible boy's name, and we still do... so when we learned we were having a girl, Madelyn was her name. Grace was a middle name that I had loved forever, and we thought it went beautifully with Madelyn.
Madelyn finally sat up unassisted for the first time on Friday.
She had been trying to for a long time. It is so cute to watch her. Her blood work and stool samples from Children's came back showing no issues related to her struggles to gain weight, so we were so relieved! We were told that she just seems to be a tiny peanut.
We just got the green light from her GI doc. to start oatmeal and some fruits again for a week, without other purees to see how her GI tract reacts. So far, so good. No major diarrhea in over a week, but no veggies either.. hmm... we take her back on Feb. 10th for a weight check, and we are crossing our fingers for some more lbs. to register on the scale!
Nicholas- is after my Grandfather and Uncle, his middle name is Johnathan for my dad.
Nathaniel- I just always loved the name, his middle name is Christopher same as my Uncle's.
When Nevin came we already had 2 N's and figured we should stick with N names. We liked the name Devin and Evan so we did Nevin his middle name is Lucas.
Nolan- we always liked as well and his middle name is Clark like superman. (true story) LOL
