Can your DC hold a bottle on their own?

DS tries but has yet to master this skill, at what age is this supposed to happen.  Yes I know it is different for each child just looking for an average age.

 TIA!

  • For 4 seconds!  Big Smile  I know it doesn't count but it was too cute when she did it this weekend for the first time.

  • He will hold the bottle sometimes- we start holding it and he will take over.  If it tips over, he hasn't figured out how to fix that yet.

  • Yes, he is doing pretty well with it, too.  He takes it out of his mouth or rests it in the corner of his mouth briefly and then resumes eating.  He can hold it for the whole feeding now.

  • Yes. He has taken to giving himself his bottle now at night. And when he feeds himself he finished much faster for some reason
  • Yup, DD feeds herself in the mornings while laying on our bed. DH gets dressed and watches her just to make sure everything goes ok.
  • Not really.  She will grab it when I am feeding her, but if I let go, she can't keep the nipple in her mouth to actually feed herself.  We use the Born Free bottles, which are rather wide, so I wonder if we used a skinnier one, if she might get a better grip on it.  She gets the idea, but hasn't mastered it quite yet!  :)

  • Not yet. He tries but all he does is push it out of the way. I actually had a heart to heart with him about this last night:

"Me: Sweetie. I know you're trying to help mommy by holding the bottle yourself, but here's the thing, you can't.

DS: Smile. Push bottle out of the way. Cry angrily because the bottle is gone.

Me: See what I mean dear? You're just making things worse. Mommy wishes you would cut it out.

DS: Smile now that bottle is back. Push it away again. Cry again.

Me: *Sigh.* You're being difficult, just like your daddy. Now I think you're doing this on purpose just to annoy me.

    DS: Big smile."

I can't wait until he can really hold it :)

  • Not yet. She is starting to get the idea though. She was holding it with both hands this weekend but I was still holding it too.
